Why would Speaks entertain leaving SJC for GP after what he already built and established with the Cadets program? (maybe Wes leaves for the college ranks but not for a local program). Leaving for GP would be a completely lateral move. SJC has the facilities and the resources to compete with anyone in the country as is. (Cadets were very young this year - they will be a pre-season top 20 team next spring)

It's also lame when GP homers point fingers at Speaks for aggressively recruiting when the Lil Hoyas are doing the same things. Prep has players from "out of town" on its roster who either board or sleep in the basement of the creepy old coach. Prep brings in high-profile transfers to supplement its roster (Bowman and Kabari are examples).

GP bends the rules as badly as any program in the area. Kabari played 5 years of ball in HS and Prep admin turned a blind eye to the situation. (his freshman year at Landon, repeated freshman year at EHS, sophomore year at EHS, junior + senior years at GP).

So again, why would Speaks even consider leaving SJC for GP when he can do the same things at Military Road as is?

It seems like it's all wishful thinking by the Prep faithful...

So many falsehoods. No one is living in coach’s basement. IAC rules are you cannot play varsity for more than 4 years, not that you cannot be in high school for more than 4 years. While there might be frustration with the coach, no one is trying to recruit Speaks. You are the irrational one if you really think that St. John’s can “compete with anyone in the country.” Stop living in the past. It was a good couple year run when St. John’s bussed in kids from Annapolis and beyond, but it is over.

At least in the DC area, SJC will be a little off next year but outstanding in 26 and 27 and back to winning games outside of the region.

I'm not convinced SJC will be the cream of the crop in DC next Spring. And please, lets not speculate on the 26 and 27 seasons. Who knows if Speaks will even remain at SJC.

And by and large, if the rumors are true that Ince is leaving SJC, he was a major recruiting force for the Cadets. I know a few families who chose SJC purely because of his connections with the kids he recruited to the school.

Earlier posters pointing out that SJC's new President is a SJC alum lacrosse parent and UA executive would seem to indicate SJC is probably gonna support the program well.

They were young this year and it obviously hurts when the #1 ranked 2024 was shelved for the entire season.

If Ince leaves, let's hope SSSA gets better, SJC doesn't fall off, and the DMV lacrosse scene gets back to 4-5 teams in the top #25 some years.

Just like DCUM to take "a little off" and spin it to "cream of the crop." SJC will absolutely be in the top 4 of DMV teams next year. Also, if you knew anything about the makeup of the 26 and 27 club teams in the area, SJC has many of the top players. In projecting, it doesn't hurt their JV team went undefeated and beat every Baltimore team. Ince leaving, and he is leaving, will have no bearing on SJC. Young college lax graduates are standing in line to be assistant coaches and try to make connections to get a job. The only reason a few families might leave is because of the commute from outside the beltway to military.

The only thing to hurt SJC and push them out of the top 5 will be Speaks leaving.

SJC can absorb an Ince departure not sure a recent college graduate is the answer for an OC. playing at a high level and coaching at a high level aren't the same, that would be a lot to put on a 23 year old. if previous posts are right and there is support for the program from head of school, they'll get another good coach in the building

SJC wasn’t the top team in the DC area last spring and they certainly weren’t the top team in the area this spring either.

And is that a joke, please go and hire some 23 year old lax bro alum out of college as your Offensive Coordinator.

Here we go again with the SJC boosters

"We have the top 2026 class...We have the best 2027 class...Our JV team went undefeated and beat the Baltimore MIAA teams".

You can spin your narrative as much as you like but losing Ince is a hit to the program, he is an excellent coach.

Here we go again with dcum putting things in quotes which aren't the actual quote. Ince is an excellent coach but it won't affect SJC being in the top 4 until Speaks leaves. Young coaches will be standing in line to interview. I'm sorry GZ's and GP's JV teams blew this year.

The difference between SJC's JV squad vs Gonzaga's or GP's was St Johns would float down players from their varsity squad to play in JV games. And while the varsity players SJC would send down to play in JV games were far from being considered starters, it does make a huge difference in the level of play and provides depth in JV games.

GP or Gonzaga don't adhere to this philosophy. Their JV teams are big enough as is.

You really have this backwards. SJC allows JV players to sit on the bench during Varsity games. These are still JV players.

SJC floated the 27's, meaning they got to practice with varsity but had to play JV when there was a conflict. They got varsity playing time in the WCAC cupcake portion of the schedule. SJC is not at the point yet where they have 50+ individual lacrosse players with skill.

To my earlier point... if you practice with the varsity daily, and then float down these players (only the 2027's) for JV games, its the same thing. I understand these 2027s were not starters on varsity.

It means the 8-10 27's at SJC are really good. They were good enough to practice with the varsity and good enough not to lose against any team in the Baltimore-washington area. It's an indication SJC will be good for years to come.

Didn’t SJC play Prep today? Am I in the wrong place for commentary?
