Are Any Fellow Jews Thinking of Changing Their Voting

Why?!?! What did the Trump administration do that was even remotely antisemitic?

I don’t even know how to respond to such a dumb blanket statement, but I’ll try.

Starting with FDR, pretty much every democratic president (with the notable exception of Clinton) has been a raging antisemite. FDR refused to let Jews trying to escape Nazi Germany into the US. FDR refused to bomb railways leading to concentration camps. He refused to bomb the camps themselves, too, of course. When Polish resistance worker, Jan Karski, met with FDR and detailed the Holocaust and begged him to help the Jews, FDR couldn’t care less and asked about how the horses were doing.

His wife hated Jews, too. She wrote appealing letters to her mom about how awful Jews were. (But who cares, she wrote the into to the American version of the Diary of Anne Frank, so all is forgiven.)

And yet American Jews love FDR. They thank god he was president. My guess is this cognitive dissonance is because of a tremendous guilt for basically looking the other way while their relatives (literally) were being murdered. They doubled down on their support of Democrats and for Civil Rights to appease that guilt. “See, we’re not really cowards or bad people, we’re helping the Blacks, right?”

And it’s gone on like that for several generations, despite all signs that the Democrats were growing increasingly antisemitic, of course, thinly veiled in anti-Zionism. Jimmy Carter alone should have moved American Jews to the right. And don’t get me started on Barry.

But, there’s always the ludicrous nonsensical argument that Trump supporters are Neo-nazis ready to start internment camps. Meanwhile, this ignores the reality that he has no affiliation with any far right groups and that most of his supporters are moderates who want a return to less inflation and stronger borders.

The reality is that most people, like my Jewish ass, who are probably going to vote for Trump are doing so because we are sick of DEI and leftist ideology infiltrating all of our institutions. We love our country and our borders and are disgusted to see a Palestinian flag flying over any campus in the US.

I’m sure Trump is a narcissist and a blow hard, and he’s hardly an ideal leader. But as I remember, because it wasn’t long ago, everything was better with his administration. And I could walk across a college campus without getting accosted for my Jewish face.

I think every statement in your diatribe was a lie. Rare that they’re all lies, but you’ve done it.

If you want to vote for an authoritarian, go for it. Trump has a Jewish daughter and grandkids, I’m sure he doesn’t personally hate Jews like he hates Muslims and brown people. But he has sold his diapered rear end to the Evangelicals. They only support Israel because of its role in the end times and they’ll never pass up a chance to brutalize Muslims. They still believe you all killed Jesus- they’ll come for you eventually. Ancient hatred doesn’t just die because you share a common enemy.

Trump will give them what they want because they are his base of power, and there aren’t many people left to stop him.

So you do what you want. Just don’t say you weren’t warned.

I said upthread: Jewish people would get punished by the GOP shortly after Spanish speaking immigrants and Muslims. I don’t know if they’d deport, or just go for the old world solution of ghettos, but I wouldn’t hang my hat on being safe under people who are openly promise to deport millions. You really think you’re going to be protected?

In the way that some people really really really want to vote Republican and will look for any excuse no matter how flimsy to do so.

I don't think anyone of any religion, race, or ethnic background really "wants" to vote for the Republican or Democratic candidate assuming Trump and Biden are the shameful nominees.

It was a rhetorical question, really. It’s pretty obvious OP is a concern troll who’s voted Republican their entire life… or they’re a Russian disinfo bot.

It’s this paragraph where you casually informed us all that you have indeed fallen under the sway of right wing propaganda. It’s America and we have a democracy for now so enjoy supporting the people who will happily wipe you out of the country. If there is a second Trump presidency, the guardrails will be gone.

+1 I mean.. Trump said he wanted to be a dictator, even for one day. And we all know if he wins, it will be four years of "revenge POTUS".

Most of his supporters are not moderates. They are MAGA unhinged, conspiracy loving idiots.

-moderate, former R

You too are delusional. All the many, many people who I know who are voting for Trump are doing it while holding their noses. Anything is better than Biden. The only thing worse would be Kamala. I’ve seen the other option and it’s better.

No, I'm another poster, and it's clear to me that Trump has dementia, and also intends to be a dictator because last time, when he tried to become a dictator, we barely stopped him and didn't actually punish him in any way that is meaningful to him. It's time to face the reality of who and what you are voting for.

I generally agree with democrats on most issues, and find some of the right’s policies (especially on abortion, LGBT rights, etc) disgusting, but I cannot in good faith vote for a party that seems to believe supporting pro-Hamas actors is more important then protecting innocent Jewish residents.

So you are ready to through under the bus the lives of millions of women and LGBTQ instead of sacrificing a much smaller group of Jewish people? Your dear leader will not be happy with you.

Your argument is that women matter, and LGBTQ people matter, but Jewish people don’t?

I wish I could support all three, I am both a Woman and Jewish, and I have family (and dear friends) who are LGBTQ. I hate I am placed in a position where I have to place my loyalty, but that is where we are, and right now Jewish people are facing an immediate danger with the increasing level of anti-Semitism and violence toward Jewish people. And if the 1930s showed us anything, Jewish people are often the first and most loudly scapegoats used to vilify all groups. Do you really think the Islamist extremist groups that the current radicals are supporting will support women and protect the rights of LGBTQ people? They may be okay with just villainizing Jewish people now because hating Jewish people is “cool” right now, but how long until those same radicals attacking our collegiate systems will start decrying gay marriage, or call for the return of women to a place of marital servitude?

I am always surprise that history did not teach Jewish people anything. They massively voted for Biden despite the knowledge that Biden is not going to codify Row v. Wade and despite the knowledge that Biden (and Obama) sent billions to people who are killing Jewish now. Back then, American Jewish wasn't thinking that one day they will come for their children. This day came, your children are not only harassed but physically assaulted on US campuses, but Jewish people still will be in denial, just like they were in denial on their way to gas cameras.

The U.S. Navy - as directed by Biden - literally shot down Iranian sonic missiles in space that were headed for Israel. Biden saved Israel’s butt.

Yes, on election year.

Here's the rub: Biden instructed the U.S. Navy to shoot down Iranian missiles because it was the right thing to do.

Would President Trump do that? Or would he hold Israel hostage while Iranian missiles fall from the sky? What would Trump make Netanyahu promise in exchange for U.S. protection from Iranian hypersonic missiles falling from outer space?

If you support an Israeli homeland, you need to be very careful who you elect in November. This threat from Iran doesn't go away after November. And Trump will want something in return the next time Iran launches a volley of missiles.

I’m OP. This is really the first good point I’ve seen.

I do support Israel, but that’s not what’s driving my anger. I rarely even thought of Israel before October 7th. It’s the Jew hatred that I’m seeing all over being perpetuated by the very left wing of the Democratic Party. And then when Jews are pointing it out they’re being told it’s not Jew hatred because they’re using another name.

Honestly, I’ll still vote for Biden. I don’t think any of this is coming from him or that he supports it. I’m also glad Abigail Spanberger is running for governor of Virginia. She publicly admonished “the squad” for being too extreme.

The poster who said my vote doesn’t matter is right. It might matter in Pennsylvania. I wonder how this is affecting large Jewish donors, since I’ve already seen college donors stop their donations.

I was just wondering if other Jewish people had been having similar feelings of betrayal by the Democratic Party, since the majority of American Jews vote Democrat.

The real Nazis are brazenly threatening Jewish people and wearing face covers. Turns out the nationalists are the hero’s now.

Those are the good guys? I'm hoping this is sarcasm otherwise someone is truly out of touch with reality.

Biden has brought the campus protesters and the campus counterprotesters together= both sides are cursing Jor Biden.

Turns out extremist a**holes on both sides hate the extremely normie moderate president, what a shock.

Go look up horseshoe theory.

What is the GOP’s reward? Never more than a third of the Jewish vote. Trump got 30% in 2020. And here we are again, like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown, “maybe this time…” And in November it’s a cascade of votes for the other side.

OP here. Well, that is because of the GOPs position on social issues. That is the betrayal. American Jews are overwhelmingly supportive of reproductive rights, lgbtq rights, immigrants. And what is the “reward” now? Being accused of “pinkwashing?” A word I’d never ever heard before this? I’m not JUST a Jew. But I sure suddenly feel like one right now.

I can’t get over how much obvious antisemitism I see—even at my own child’s college—and how I’m being gaslighted and told by non Jews that what I’m seeing doesn’t exist or that since there are some Jews who agree, it can’t be Jew hating.

I can’t imagine voting for Trump, and I genuinely think Biden supports Jews. But I want to send a message to the left wing of the Democratic Party that they are taking Jewish support for granted.

Right now I would not give a blanket vote to any down ticket Democrat without looking at their record on Jews and Israel. And there’s a part of me that really isn’t sure I won’t vote for Trump just because I’m so angry.
