Are Any Fellow Jews Thinking of Changing Their Voting

if you want to forecast how the jewish people will position themselves on any particular topic, put yourself in their shoes and first ask "is it good for the jews?", first and foremost.

There is a huge difference between eating Jewish students to be able to attend university without being in physical danger, and to be taken seriously when we talk about how the Democratic Party has been largely co-opted by extremist Islamists who are promoting dangerous anti-Semitic and genocidal rhetoric.

Personally, to imply that Jews only care about what is “Good for the Jews” may just be one of the most anti-Semitic posts I’ve seen on this board, and I’ve been follow the Gaza/Israel threads since 10/6.

Again, how do you square this with the fact that Biden and the party mainstream are being attacked by the protesters for being too supportive of Israel? If the party were taken over like you say, the protesters would not be pushing votes for “uncommitted” or plotting to crash the convention later this year.

He’s afraid to alienate the Hamas wing of the Democrat party.

I can’t get over how much obvious antisemitism I see—even at my own child’s college—and how I’m being gaslighted and told by non Jews that what I’m seeing doesn’t exist or that since there are some Jews who agree, it can’t be Jew hating.

I can’t imagine voting for Trump, and I genuinely think Biden supports Jews. But I want to send a message to the left wing of the Democratic Party that they are taking Jewish support for granted.

Right now I would not give a blanket vote to any down ticket Democrat without looking at their record on Jews and Israel. And there’s a part of me that really isn’t sure I won’t vote for Trump just because I’m so angry.

Jew and moderate Dem here. I'm not changing my vote from Biden and, honestly, probably not down-ballot either, though I'm always open to splitting my vote down-ballot based on local policy and governance. I'm not changing my vote for a few different reasons:

1. The leftist wing of the party has always been antisemitic. If you're just now noticing that, you haven't been paying attention. Jews supporting leftist causes have had to leave our Jewishness at the door in order to fight for our intersectional identities and support our allies (BLM leaders came out with BDS stances years ago; Pride parades barred the Star of David for Jewish LGBTQ marchers because the organizers couldn't accept it as a Jewish symbol and not just Israel's flag; the Women's March leaders are proud antisemites). The language of DEI and intersectionality has, for a long time now, placed Jewish identity in a privileged/oppressor position that The Left can't fight to protect. That doesn't mean I (and the majority of other Jews) don't share many of the same liberal values, but that my Jewishness in those spaces is not welcomed or must be minimized in order to fight the good fight.

2. Voting against Dems isn't going to "send a message" to them; it's just going to remove my Jewish voice from the party.

3. What's happening on college campuses is awful. But most kids are going to class and lining up summer jobs. We're just only hearing from the loud ones. Biden's not out there courting their vote and neither are most Dems running for office.

4. I vote on a number of issues. Support for Israel is one of them and I've been okay with Biden's level of support for Israel. Combatting antisemitism is another one and I don't think the GOP would do any better, given that their recent track record was under the same candidate. Maybe if they were running someone else, I might take a closer look at that. But women's rights, healthcare, and gun laws are also up there on my priority list and none of my positions on those issues are even a little bit aligned with the GOP at this time.

OP here. Thank you. This is a well reasoned answer. Is that true about Jewish stars and pride parades? I’ve never heard that before. ❤️

Two I remember when they happened and could easily pull up in Google:
At the 2017 Chicago Pride Parade: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40407057
At the 2019 DC Dyke March: https://www.jta.org/quick-reads/dc-dyke-march-bans-jewish-pride-flags

DCUM has become wildly anti-semitic since October. Maybe it was before and I didn't notice. But boy, it is really disgusting now.

Evidently, you do not understand that people can be against Israeli policies without being anti-Semitic.

This 100%. Yes, there is a loud leftist wing of the Democratic party, but the extremists are not the ones running the party, and have been outspokenly disappointed with Biden and other Democratic leaders. The same can't be said of the GOP.

What's out of control here? Some college kids are acting the way early-20-somethings act - rashly and without a full understanding of the real world.

You will all put us in a facist state with your ridiculous thought processes.

I am Jewish, not supporting Israel doing what they are doing. Not supporting my dollars going there to do it. Not supporting Netanyahu. I am in the minority with my age peers, but, they are deluded after decades of nationalistic rhetoric about all this- and after hearing them complain about nationalism here, xenophobia here, white Christian nationalism here, racism here. etc., all of a sudden will support Israel killing tens of thousands of people. I'm just embarrassed because it's our tribe now. I will not weaponize the Holocaust to do it to others. Disgraceful.

Go ahead and don't vote for Biden and you destroy the country and yes, the world. Biden didn't just dream this support up- this is very old policy and yes, we are seeing some cracks in that. Nemm

jesus christ, when we say that it's a joke. "here's why that's bad for the jews," when movie popcorn goes up in price.

that said, i can look at the college protests and see that's bad for the jews for real - and bad for the country beyond what's bad for the jews.

No, you don’t say it in a Larry David way unless it is in the context of a Larry David situation — like popcorn prices

Matt yglesias and Franklin foer both have written extensively on this phenomenon as a method for goyim to understand Jewish positions

It is useful for example to explain to people why Jews historically voted Democrat or supported the 1965 hart-cellar changes to immigration or why Jews supported the Iraq war etc or why the neoconservative movement was spearheaded by Jews etc
