These tournaments are big money makers and they pretty much run off of volunteer work. It’s a suckers gambit. They collect huge fees and give out a few plastic sombrero medals. Save your Father’s Day and go out to lunch with your kids. |
| Does the Valor all star tournament survive after this year? Do you think they may try to pivot to a travel tournament? Or do they simply fade away altogether? |
If it makes money. |
That’s a big if. Have they listed any participating rec clubs yet? Last year was a pretty weak showing for their inaugural year and now people know how much that tournament sucks. I think they might be toast. |
| One of my dc plays SFL team for SYA rec and I ran into his coach. He had mentioned a tournament on the team chat but I thought he meant the same one as last year. Oh no, its the Valor one. I immediately thought of this thread ha ha. My son's rec team has only won1 game all season how are they logically be playing in an all star tournament against all star teams? He had no idea it was even called an all star tournament. |
| The FPYC tournament will take SFL teams but they have 3 levels per age group usually so they can put the SFL teams in the lower levels and the All Star teams in the higher levels. |
Makes sense that SYA is going. Pretty sure the only other league there will be CYA. Loser bowl fest. |
More like the “Toilet Bowl”! |
The medals and trophies should be in the shape of a toilet bowl. Would be less offensive than sombrero. |
| I emailed my dc's coach who is also the all star coach and he says their CYA all star team is playing in the FPYC tournament. |
That's hilarious! What age and gender? I think other groups within CYA still may go to the Valor tournament. |
U12 boys |
The whole team that only won one game is going to all stars? Or is just your dc and some other “top” players? |
| Sounds like they are putting the whole terrible team into the tournament to play all star teams. |
| The "Fiesta" is pretty tone deaf. We were asked to participate in CYA all stars and said no. The theme is offensive. |
