What are the best independent schools ranked 1 - 8 ?

As someone who is waiting--along with a big, anxious cohort of parents of my DC's friends--for admissions decisions in a couple of weeks, I can give an update/reality check to the old-timers/pearl-clutchers on here: GDS is seen as the golden ticket. And yes, I'll grab the spot for my kid if we get the ticket.

Bethesda publics ftw. My kids got into their top choice colleges. Friends with kids at privates, not so much.

Or you could move to a W school cluster.

💯💯💯💯💯

We live in the Whitman cluster and send our kids to private school, as do half of our neighbors.

This is not an exaggeration.

For real?! This is ridiculous. There is a lot of striving and keeping up with the Joneses, but the Whitman kids are laughing all the way to the bank.

SFS is #1. Not. Even. Close.

It is in fact shocking that its status has never been usurped.

Are the other 1/2 happy at Whitman?

How would I know and why would I care? Go ask the public forum.

No one has ever heard of BIM except for the one troll who mentions them on every post like this. It might not exist.

LOL. Have you been there in the last decade or so? The bethesda campus buildings should have been bulldozed long ago. But I guess they're still hoping to someday find the money to build a new school.
And the US is dilapidated and filled with sad children. No thank you.

Sidwell’s status will be further solidified once the renovated US opens in fall 2026.
Sidwell’s haters are going to lose their minds!

Lol—the joke is on you! Sidwell just sent parents a letter that says they have raised 92% of the campaign goal ($140M/$152M goal). And Sidwell raised the money without charging families a “building/construction fee.”

Yeah. It's been two or three years away for more than a decade. Good luck!!!

At least 2 of those years were during a global pandemic when the world practically shut down.

But you’re probably right, Sidwell hater. The school is probably lying about reaching 92% of its goal, creating a website showing its progress, and saying it will start construction this summer. Sidwell is playing all of us. 🙄
