I would not pay for the Catholics despite the discount because of the trauma a lot of them carry and the brainwashing

“brainwashing?” Maybe you should read a bit more widely It might make you less stupid.

This. Do what’s best for your family. If that is soul-crushing workload and hopes of Ivy admission, then cool, I guess. But we picked a school that hasn’t been mentioned yet because it’s best for what our kids need right now — smaller classes, dedicated teachers, expansive academic offerings, engaged students, etc. — which is all we care about. We are aiming for happy kids, not instagram clout.

You’re late to the game. PP nailed it one page one.

1) the school my kid goes to and I think makes other envious.
2) a school that is similar to my kid’s school. “We” got accepted but turned it down.
3) see #2
4) some school that gets mentioned a lot but I know nothing about.
5) the school my friend’s kids go to.
6) a school that wait listed my kid.
7) a really bad school.
8) the school that b#$ch Jane’s kids got in to but rejected my kid…screw you!

We are newer to Stone Ridge and loving it. I asked my child what her favorite classes were, and she surprised me with Science and Religion. She said the teacher in the latter is really nice. If that's what you mean by brainwashing, she's easily swayed I guess! I would not call it heavy handed--she does find questions/discussions about life/the universe/ethics/purpose etc. interesting though. Has since she was little.

This thread is about the independent schools. There’s the same trend catching up with them as with the colleges, which Selingo identifies as skip over schools. At these fees, if you can’t get the best, you don’t pay for the 2nd best, you go public and supplement with the top private services available from tutors to sports to admissions.

What? No. There's definitely a group of smaller schools that get little attention on DCUM growing like gangbusters because the ranking that matters is that FOR YOUR CHILD.

I mean, my kid would absolutely *crater* at a place like GDS because a progressive education style is kryptonite to his ability to focus; a more traditional school, like Blessed Trinity Gospel, in the strip mall next to the Piggly-Wiggly, therefore ranks significantly higher.
