True, I took the SATs once and got in the 1400s and that was enough to get me into Michigan plus an Ivy. I also was ranked 3rd in my HS class with a few B+s on my transcript. Now all of my former safeties would be out of reach.

Does withdrawing from state flagships right away (as opposed to a couple of months from now) make a difference to those on the waitlist? Or are waitlist outcomes all determined at once after May 1. Genuine question.

It doesn’t make a difference. They have predicted yield rates and overadmit based on those. That’s true of all colleges.

Except if you were in HS today you would be doing SAT prep and benefitting from grade inflation. Also SAT scores from 30 years ago aren’t equivalent to todays scores -the scoring has be reset a couple of times.

Did you visit? My DC is convinced they got in oos to engineering because we visited and they did several online events. I guess they asked on the app how many times you visited and dates

Thanks! You confirm what I thought was the case. Early withdrawal doesn't necessarily help anyone.
