How many of those countries would be free if America hadn’t entered WW II and fought for freedom? How many would be free if we hadn’t formed NATO to defend freedom? How many would be free if we hadn’t set the precedent with our revolution that the divine right of kings could not only be defied and overcome, but that the people could form a stable government and rule themselves? |
I'm very proud to be part of the greatest experiment in human governance that has ever existed, and proud that my family since the founding of the nation has a continuous history of true civic involvement.
I'm also ashamed of much that my country has done to harm people, the environment, and the cause of justice and peace worldwide. |
I don't understand the point of feeling "proud" about something that happened to you by chance. |
And yet, you still won’t change. Interesting. |
What is it you all actually stand for other than hating the libs? |
By chance? Tell that to the immigrants who have risked life and limb to come here. |

Most of them. Switzerland was neutral. New Zealand FOUGHT in WWII (ANZAC soldiers). So did Australia (#14). Of the countries above the USA, many of them were unaffected by WWII. Hell, JAPAN ranks ahead of the USA on this list. Moreover, if you really have to point to something that happened 80 years ago as proof that you should jingoistically proud of the USA TODAY, you're grasping at straws. You act like the USA invented freedom. It didn't. Hell, we wouldn't be a COUNTRY if it wasn't for France, and the French today are cheese-eating surrender monkeys. So whatever is your point? |
DP but the bolded statements/terminology make you sound like an absolute fool. |
You forgot low/no punishment for criminals which increases the crime rate and trauma to innocent victims, basically open borders and spending shitloads on illegals to the detriment of many Americans, economy, in the toilet… |
Yet I’m guessing you’re all for reparations. |
I should clarify: I have much gratitudethat my maternal ancestors came here on the Mayflower, and my paternal ancestors came on a boat to Ellis Island in the late 1800s. I am proud that my family has always been actively involved in the experiment in a civic way and also by military service, both conscripted and volunteer. And I am ashamed of all the ways we fall short as a nation, and in recent years have been losing heart about our future. I studied political science with a concentration in theory, then obtained a law degree in an alternative program that included black letter law but also a lot of legal theory. I see what is happening for what it is, and it is frightening. I do have anxiety about the near future of this country, so much so that I have come to a place where I no longer regret not having children. I'm an educator and I experience a lot of anxiety for the future on behalf of other people's kids and that is hard enough. We are on a precipice. |
You seriously have to ask? How about harsher criminal punishments instead of letting the jacka$$es run amok in dc (and many other areas in the US). And tightening up the borders, to start? |
The economy is in the toilet? News to me. Unemployment is record low, the stock market is doing great, and inflation is decreasing (not the result of anything Biden did). Historically both the deficit and the economy have done better under Democrats. If you want to talk about meaningful immigration reform, sure, we can do that. But it ain't building the wall. Is the crime better in poor Alabama or Oklahoma where it's mostly republicans running the show? Nope. |
You mean like the ones who stormed the capitol or your former president. SUre, I'm all for not letting the criminals run amock. Lets start with them. |
