It was a unique bracelet; if we were scammed, I wouldn't want to purchase any more jewelry there. It will be obvious one is missing. I won't say anything to my mother-in-law, of course. I may say I like wearing one.. my mother in law is very sweet and I'm not too worried about it. she doesn't ask me a lot of questions.

update: friend sent an amazon link for 3 bangles that are $20 and asked if she should order them for me.

Your friend does not seem like a friend.
You told her the sentiment of the piece and that it was gold and she is offering to buy you a $20 bangle??

I would tell her off now if haven't alredy.

OP is a troll, guys.

If it was gold as you say, then it shouldn’t be turning “black”. I never saw gold turn “black”. So it could have been gold plated, which is different and is not gold. Even 14K gold, which is only around 50% gold, does not turn black. India gold is mostly 22K gold (about 90%). Very few items are made with 24K gold cause it’s malleable.

Your friend was very careless and wrong to lose it, nonetheless. It doesn’t matter if it’s real gold or fake, it’s your item and she agreed to take care of it. She should have just returned it to you.

But what can you do now? Lesson learned, don’t give your items to strangers (even those you consider “friends”).
