Bill Ackman forgives wife for plagiarism

Anonymous
I imagine Bill has to be in deep sh#t with his wife. His unhinged social media addiction led to her professional credentials being destroyed. She didn’t ask for this attention, but her husband leading an anti-woke mob on the internet means that her reputation ends up as collateral damage. I mean, whenever she goes to another progressional conference everyone is going to look at her, speak in hushed tones, and snicker. Humiliating.

Let this be a lesson: when you try to stir up the mobs, you don’t know where they will end up. You eventually lose control of the monster you created.

Elon, Bill and the rest of the perpetually online billionaires should take a hint from Bezos or Gates or Buffer and get off the internet. Focus on your business, not these out of control culture wars.

No she is Israel and knows how important it is to crush all opposition to Israel.

Whether or not this is true, she is not the president of an academic institution who cited that condemning threats to a group of people at an organization that she was responsible for depended on the context.

No comparison. Again, what-about-ism is astonishing
. That’s all you folks can do. Schoolyard chants and ridiculous “I know you are but what am I” retorts. Rah rah team

No, Oxman is not the president of an academic institution BUT, she was once a professor at a very prestigious one--MIT. And her husband is on a mission to take down first the Harvard president and is now going after the president and the entire faculty of MIT. Remember what this whole story started as--a congressional inquiry into accusations of anti-semitism on some campuses. Why has it morphed into an anti-DEI, anti-elite university crusade? Context is very important in this case. You can close your eyes and just focus on one narrow piece of the story--whether the Oxam's plagiarism--and its import--is equivalent or not to that of Gay, but there is a lot more going on here. Use the "critical thinking skills" that your party likes to talk about so much.

I would be totally fine revoking both Gay’s and Oxman’s PhDs due to plagiarism, along with those of other academics discovered to have plagiarized to the extent that their university code of conduct is violated. Are you okay with that? If so we are in agreement.

Yes, I'm okay with that. I was in a PhD program once so I get why plagiarism is so wrong. It's just that it's being done in a highly political, public context and that is what is troubling me. It's like a new type of McCarthyism aimed at academics. Outing academic plagiarists has become a political weapon.

Well, academics have hardly done a good job themselves at detecting and ousting plagiarists among themselves, so it kind of has to be sdone by omeone outside of the academy. Clearly universities have a massive fraud and cheating problem among their professors.

I am not sure how this qualifies as “McCarthyism” if the search and punishment is universally applied and the plagiarism is proven. That seems like a stretch. If both Gay’s and Oxman’s theses are reviewed under the standards of their respective academic institutions and both violate the standards, then both can be revoked under the rules of their institutions. Other academics should be treated the same way.

Of course, if Gay’s thesis is revoked she will no longer be qualified for her professorship position. That is irrelevant for Oxman.

Those conferences are filled with academics who are worried their own widespread plagiarism will be uncovered. Nobody will be speaking in hushed tones or snickering.

She has 4 billion reasons to not care what other academics are saying about her.

Is Bill Ackman is hypocrite or not?

Has he been shown to have plagiarized papers?

+1
And is his wife the president of any university?

How are they lecturing you? Do you work or study in an academic institution? If not, I can't imagine what academics say or do has much impact on your personal life.

And why the word "elites" to describe academics. Do you disapprove of their level of education or is it a social class thing? I know lots of academics that came from modest backgrounds and worked very hard for a long time to get where they are because they love the work.

Sadly, I do have to deal w academics and “think tank” types who hold themselves in very high regard, shall I say elite status. Many have never actually produced outside of these protected/tenured/fellow bubbles, which is not lost on me. But boy do they think they are always right. So yes….first person account.

In what capacity do you work with them?

It's only a matter of time before he runs for office as Trunp 2.0.

You must be joking. He donated MILLIONS to Harvard, during protests of all kinds. But now, it turns out, Jews are the only group NOT protected at Harvard. Of course he's incensed, especially after giving them a fortune of his own money. Why on earth shouldn't he be?

He is white, male, and rich, what does his religion have to do with his obnoxious stance?

My point obviously is that he uses his status in a minority religion as a convenient cudgel and to justify his behavior.

Would you say the same about a wealthy black donor who decided to speak up and refuse to continue donating upon the discovery that the university had no problem with protesters screaming ugly things about black people and allowing black people to be harassed? We'll wait while you twist yourself into a pretzel, trying to answer.

Um, white American jews aren’t minorities and have never faced hardships remotely close to the history of American blacks.

This is my take as well. He reminds me of Elon Musk and other billionaires with large social media followings whose egos are proportional to their vast wealth and who like to throw their weight around and wade into social and political issues. One wonders what their endgame is. More money and power or the White House as you suggested?

So - people like Susan Sarandon, and countless other liberal actors? Oh.

Ok so at the very least, Ackman et al. are lying cheating hypocrites and at most Dori or Noro or whatever her name is, needs to have her PhD revoked yesterday. She is a fraud.

Nothing about Ackman was a lie, a cheat, or hypocritical. You’d make a terrible attorney.

He is now married to his home wrecker who directly plagiarized Wikipedia. I can’t think of more irony or hypocrisy.

DP. Why do you keep referring to his wife as a "homewrecker"? All of your posts are unhinged, but that one isn't even close to being true. He and his first wife divorced in 2016 and he and his present wife married in 2019. Maybe you should seek therapy for your irrational anger.

Sarandon is not a billionaire and has little if any influence. Heck, most people under 60 probably haven’t heard of her. I was speaking about the elite class of mega-wealthy who throw their money and weight around, regardless of political beliefs.

I’m not angry, I believe the new upgraded wife was just waiting in the wings. He leveled up, traded in his old worn out starter wife. It’s blatantly obvious, happens all the time.
