The military is moving to 12 month unaccompanied hardship tours for those assigned to DC.

What WILL stop them then? Please enlighten us.

Sending good parents back in time to raise them properly. By the time they’re teens committing crimes the opportunity to instill values is gone. This isn’t the fault of teachers or police - its the parent’s fault.

+1. The largest percentage of crime is due to parents not doing their job. In being shitty parents they’re forcing everyone else in society to pay the price. Teachers, cops, paramedics, ER personnel, citizen-victims.

There’s huge swaths of the population where its part of the culture to be (or non-existant) a bad parent.

If only birth control and abortion are more accessible to them…

You want them to go extinct? A genocide? That’s rough and heartless. No they need to get married and raise their children properly.

MPD has a plan to protect us!

The fact that the suggestion is to be aware of my surroundings in my locked car at every red light is just too much for me. I never thought we’d move but the writings on the wall.

I read that drivers in some parts of Brazil roll through red lights to prevent carjacking.

In many Latin American cities people carry pouches of cash to toss at people to avoid being carjacked or kidnapped.

The government could do more by providing free cars for those under 18.

This is actually not a bad idea! Graduate from high school with a 3.5 or higher and you get a car, if you are at the lower economic level.

Why stop there?! Give them $100,000 in cash and a free apartment too. We're talking about human beings after all. And also gotta cover groceries. Any who doesn't deserve the occasional night out to a fancy restaurant? People need nice new clothes to feel dignified, so should definitely provide an allowance for that, too.

3.5 gpa? No need to give them all that, corporates will when they graduate

some of us are not super signaling San Francisco style progressives are basically hostages here, bound by work or other duties. I agree with you that people in this city who are complaining NOW (and voted for progressives BEFORE) should consider voting differently. It's awful.

It’s not even a specific party, Anthony Williams and Adrian Fenty especially was fantastic we have to find another one like him.

An Afghan interpreter got killed? That doesn’t sound like a basic DC crime. Sounds like an international political assassination or “botched robbery”. I hate when they try to blame stuff like that or wayward Russians killing each other here on locals unless there’s some strong video evidence.

Ok MAGA.

She’s not wrong.

I am DEFINITELY NOT MAGA (and a DP) but there needs to be consequences. I am a die hard Dem but Bowser is a failure on crime. Car jackers aren't even prosecuted for the most part. Need to make it a FEDERAL CRIME and bring out the National Guard if necessary. This city council is a JOKE and I used to like Bowser but she is an even bigger JOKE.

+1 wish there was still an Australia type land mass where we could ship these criminals off to. Antarctica maybe?

Leave the polar bears in peace from these thugs.

By law, they are entitled to “youthful offender” status, and understandably treated differently when they slip up. Everyone makes mistakes. Youthful offender goes up to age 26 in DC.

Don’t you want to give children a second chance?

Nope not when they are engaged in violent crimes

Like I literally just don't care

Locking ppl up LT does stop them from committing crimes and provides some deterrence

How's all this light / no sentencing working out?

Jesus Christ. Listen to yourself. You want to sentence kids to long-term prison sentences. You are lacking a serious mental compass.
ANd are an example of the depths of sh--- this country is sinking to.

Violent 25 year olds are not kids

They are kids until they reach the age of 26. Before that their brains aren't fully formed. I'm sorry, but that's just basic science.

Plus, it is the law in D.C.

Up to 26 = youthful offender. That’s just a fact.

Which is a bunch of BS.

Tonight, before 6pm, a woman was carjacked and pulled from her car in downtown DC. They crashed it, blocks away, in front of Cap One, where there is an event tonight. The carjackers fled into the metro.

Zero interest in going down for the holiday market now.

I am not at at a Second Amendment type but reluctantly have come to the conclusion that more law-abiding DC citizens need to be armed to defend themselves from these super predators. The police can’t do it and the prosecutors won’t do it.

He was driving for Lyft and there is video evidence of young teens running away while talking about killing him.

Check your ignorance or don't post, please.

3-4 armed guys vs. you, even with a handgun your odds are not great in that scenario.

I recognize it would mean 90% of you would be gone, but it’s a shame we can’t remove the low information voters from this site.
