You aren't sane if you have no regard of others.

DP. If others are that worried about catching covid again, they should be wearing a protective mask. Given that a large percentage of cases are asymptomatic-- probably a full majority in kids-- expecting others to mask when they think there's a chance they have covid isn't going to be an effective strategy.

Denial must be a wonderful thing. Seek help. Not a good coping strategy. And, please don't have more kids if you cannot care for the ones you have.

Are you renting that Covid can spread asymptomaticly? Weird.

DP. You’re the one that sounds in denial. Look, if we the parents had Covid and our kids did not, we would send them to school in masks. But you to need to accept that a lot of people are not even testing anymore (although I think people in this area are more likely to do so). And kids often present with mild or no symptoms at all. You need to accept the current reality and take steps to mitigate your own risk rather than ranting to strangers on the internet.

I don't see how you got that from the pp's reply to you. I'm not sure what's going on with you, but hopefully you find whatever help you need. It's not healthy for you to obsess like this, nor is it fair to your family.

Your reading comprehension skills are very poor. Did you miss a lot of school as a child too?

No it's not. Sending kids with a high level of exposure to school is a huge issue. They cannot mask all the time and you simply don't care who your impact.

It’s cold season. So many kids are running around with coughs and sneezing and runny noses that don’t have Covid. Those kids should not be staying home for 7 to 10 days missing instruction. And now they need a doctors note after five days or they’ll be kicked out of school. Kids will allergies will be just fine. Obviously if your child has Covid or flu, stay home but their other bugs running around.

And don’t you remember when they tried testing kits for Covid back in 2021? Only a fraction of a parrot signed up for it. So that will never work.

Agreed. That's why a mask is a good idea. The kids can be in school, and the mask will reduce the chances that they infect other people.

No, a mask is NOT a good idea for otherwise healthy kids.

You are welcome to wear a mask all day, every day for the rest of you life if you so choose. Kids get sick. It's part of life. And, actually, some have argued that it's a good thing because it helps kids develop a strong immune system.

If you have an infectious illness, then you are not a "healthy kid" - you are a kid who has an infectious disease.

Yes, kids get sick. And when they do, we respond appropriately. For example, we keep them at home, or we take them to the doctor - or we get them vaccinated. A mask at school, so they're less likely to infect other kids or adults, is an appropriate response.

Don’t be obtuse. Yes, they are healthy kids. And healthy kids can get sick with the flu, colds, or stomach bugs. I keep my kids home too, but guess what I’m not gonna have them mask at school for colds. And if I was the type of person who was so concerned about getting infected, then I would mask myself up and not demand that of other people.

Yes, and then they're infectious, and it's socially responsible to do what you can so they don't infect other people. Which might include masks.

No.

If you are so concerned about infectious diseases, make sure to send your own kid in an N 95 mask so that they don’t get sick.

You could also say, "If you are so concerned about fires, make sure to install your own smoke alarms and sprinkler systems," and yet government laws and building codes require smoke alarms and sprinkler systems, even for people are not so concerned about fires.

OK keeping with your logic, government does not have laws that require you to wear masks when you have a cold. Or even the flu. Or even Covid.

You should not need laws for common sense practices.

Only people with anxiety issues think that you need to mask up for colds. That is not common sense. I don’t think you know what common sense is.

Grow up. It’s not anxiety to not to want to get a cold for a week. It’s really uncomfortable and disruptive. Check your mental health if you lack the judgement to stay home when sick.

No one *wants* a cold, but the majority of us accept it as a fact of life. If you don't accept the risk, you can take measures to protect yourself and your family. Be warned that if you keep your own kids home for every cold, your kids are going to get flagged for poor attendance eventually. You'll want to document with doctors notes because staying home a week for a cold is not common practice and some will think you're lying to take your kids to Disney and such.

I’d accept an actual cold as a fact of life. I don’t accept as a fact of life COVID being given to my kid by some yahoo who declared “cold symptoms” and refused to test. You shouldn’t either.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2805461

Then you should definitely wear a N-95 mask.

I do. But there are no N-95s for kids. So my kid wears a mask that is less protective at school with unmasked kids, some of whom who are apparently being sent there by sociopaths who think ignoring COVID symptoms turns them into cold symptoms.

Regular colds are just as problematic as kids share desks/supplies and touch everything and there is no surface cleaning so it gets spread on surfaces.

If you don't think that's enough, how do you expect to protect them from asymptomatic cases and presymptomatic cases that are already contagious, regardless of whether it's rhinovirus, covid, flu, RSV, or a variety of other viruses?

It sounds like you should just let your kids live their lives and isolate yourself.

I don’t know why you would think I’d be interested in your opinion about this. Bye.

The quantity of your posts suggests otherwise.

Schools need to test these children that are coughing and sneezing for infectious diseases and remove them form class if it’s infectious.

I believe Children with allergies are more prone to die when they get the flu or COVID. So if my kid had allergies I would not knowingly send him into a classroom with the air full of COVID or the flu.

There are a lot of options for masks for kids.

Why isn’t there a focus on air purifiers? Trying to just focus on masking doesn’t seem right. Can’t MCPS throw some money at air purification systems? We’d all be better off

N95 is a NIOSH certification; NIOSH doesn’t certify respirators for kids.
