| Anyone else shaking their head at MCPS’’s use of masking as a preventive measure? My ES kid sneezed several times and has some sniffles and was asked to wear a mask the remainder of the day. There have been a few cases of COVId at our school but I’m surprised MCPS is still holding onto masking. My kid has allergies and doesn’t have Covid, so I’d really like to understand the criteria MCPS is using to make a decision like they did today. Oh wait they have none. Utterly ridiculous. |
This is surprising. I think the MCPS policy is that masks are required only when there are 3+ cases in a classroom at the same time. I'd push back. |
| Your kid is sick and you are sending them to school not caring if you infect others and complaining they are asking your kid to mask. Oh my... |
| I would have zero issue if my child was asked to mask in the classroom, especially if it meant they could stay in school. My child won’t go to school with sniffles unless we have confirmed no fever and negative COVID (2 tests). |
That's ridiculous. Teach your kids to politely decline. |
You didn't mask your kids before COVID when they were sick with the common cold. But we know who you are - the psycho who keeps her kids home from school for 80 days a year just for the common cold symptoms to completely go away. |
| OP, that is frustrating and I would be upset if that happened to my kid. Adults with anxiety issues, stop bothering kids. I do think in MCPS they said they are only required for multiple COVID cases in the school or returning after 5 days with COVID, so I would write the teacher or principal about it. |
| I would be very unhappy about that, especially for a kid with allergies. OP can you send in a note regarding the child's seasonal allergies? That's what we did back in 2021 at our preschool in order to prevent her being sent home for two full weeks in the spring due to sneezing and runny nose (she did have to wear a mask but all kids did, it was 2021). |
| It's teacher dependent, not mcps policy. Some teachers are germaphobes. Just write a note saying your kid has allergies. Not a big deal. |
Ridiculous and I would ask for written clarification on what the policy is. No masking if no COVID. |
No. If it's an infectious illness, then wearing a mask seems quite reasonable. Next time, tell your kid to say it's allergies - assuming it is allergies. |
No you are the ridiculous Big whoop non invasive mask Stop running your mouth for nothing |
Agree. Ridiculous to ask a kid to mask. Might be that particular teacher is an anxious germaphobe. Tell your kids to simply take the mask and then not wear it. Or poorly decline the mask. |
That is much easier said than done. You know the teachers hold all of the power in the class and kids are generally afraid to decline a teacher request. Most kids want to please their teachers and we have always taught them to do and follow directions. So this is why as parents we need to step in and advocate for our kids. |
| No issue. It’s smart. |
