Moreover, Stars is a club. Not a school. |
you don't know much about the lacrosse world, do you? |

I don't think most people here truly understand how time consuming it is to coach at the high school level. For terrible pay. And potentially a target of nonstop criticism.
Now... who wants the job? |
So far I have only had one recruited daughter, so not quite expert level on this topic. I have another with college potential, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on the important role the high school coach might play next time around. Please teach me! |
Different poster, here's my observation from having twice been through the process of selecting a school from among the many options, sometimes it comes down to third or fourth level of importance considerations because the major considerations are a wash. For Visi, some girls probably do choose it over others based on lacrosse considerations (friends from team there, know that they will be playing on a high achieving team) but not recruiting considerations, I hope. Club is by far the most important and the recruit's own efforts are second. School lacrosse is third at best (probably fourth behind academics, which of course school impacts). At the moment, KJ is probably the only local HS coach that might move the recruiting needle and it is probably only incremental. |
Not to mention dealing with parents who have never played the sport trying to “help” you coach the team. The parents who think their kid deserves more playing time. That their kid should be on varsity when they were on the fence on being cut from JV. Parents that have the AD on speed dial. The parents that think their kid is going to be recruited by Duke/ UNC/ Harvard and he/ she can’t even pick up a GB. You know what the worst thing about coaching is, the @$in’ parents. |
And the same goes for the referees. Kids are great; coaches are great; parents are horrible and causing the shortage in referees. |
I had to stop coaching my daughters rec. teams after a few years because of the parents. I played D1 Men's Lacrosse back in the day so I know a little about the game. Numerous Moms coming up to me asking why their daughters weren't playing as much (couldn't run 10 yards without a water break) or why I wasn't running a certain offense their older daughter runs in high school. These girls couldn't even catch and throw so my focus was on fundamentals - not a 2-3-2 offense with picks and cutters. Heck, just getting the goalies gear on was a full time job. It's a shame because there was a lot of knowledge I could've passed down to the girls. Both of my girls are on very good tracks so it all worked out, but I could've stayed in longer and passed on more knowledge without the constant parent interaction. Oh well.... |

One of the funniest conversations in rec during an intro with the parents was “what college coaches will you be bringing in for recruiting during the season?” Not a joking question. Not tongue in cheek. Nope, dead serious.
This was a 5/6 girls program running two small teams. The refs, even if I don’t always agree with them and sometimes do not like them have a tough job. Totally suck butt job to have. |
Yeah, that recruiting story is absurd! |
| Does Visi have a coach yet? |
No and no one seems to know what is going on. Meanwhile, SR, GC, SJC and HC are firing on all cylinders in the lax dept. Laissez-faire as usual. |
Holy child firing on all cylinders? |
What does that AD have to say to the parents? Nothing? |
Nothing. |
