Coaching staff at Visi

There seems to be this fallacy of coaches turning programs around and creating miracles. Yes this is possible and happens on occasion, but coaches are more often than not working with whomever they have. They may put their applicant picks into the admissions office but that’s not a guarantee those student athletes will come to that school IF they are in fact admitted (often they aren’t due to academic standards which many privates adhere to). There are examples of course when a team is stacked with stellar athletes and the team underperforms, but as PP said—they are kids. I think “underperformance” is an issue (either with the Coach or some sort of school culture thing) when it’s a trend season after season with strong players. But for the most part coaches are working with the group of kids we they are handed. It’s not like a travel/club team that can pull from the best of the best.

I agree with this at the public school level. You can only work with kids zoned to go to that school. For privates, if you can get a top notch coach in, kids will gravitate towards that school. Who doesn't want their kid playing for a great coach? SSSA is probably the best example of that.

There's obviously truth to that, but I assume (perhaps wrongly!) that most families choose the high school that meets more than just the lax/coach criteria. And then there's the size issue: privates tend to be significantly small so fewer (top level) kids trying out each season vs publics with tons of kids. Maybe the size issue is less of a factor in lax in DMV, but was definitely an issue for other sports for my DD.

Visitation seems to do things on their own schedule - I doubt they’ve given a second thought to whom they may lose at the ‘28 year. Just hope no existing players leave.

I'd guess most 8th graders would choose Visi (or not) for reasons other than lacrosse. Even for the best players, neither the coach nor the school will play a critical role in recruiting, so it probably does not really matter who the coach is.

Also has had a fair amount of Visi players. This makes no sense to me.
