Do you know which court – is this district or circuit court?

A post I saw in a neighborhood group indicates circuit court. I don’t know the original source of that info, however.

About time. Although I am very surprised this is going to trial. My take is that the prosecutor isn't offering much in the way of a plea deal. Does Shahid blink before trial? The facts are very bad for him. I can't see a FFX Co. jury harboring much sympathy for him.

Lots of pleas are taken on the eve of trial or even after jury selection. There's still time for him to take a deal if the prosecutors want it that way.

I’d love to know who Shahid’s attorney is.

The change.org petition has his attorney’s info.

Seems like this trial is big enough to merit some sort of local coverage. Cases like this seldom go to trial. Jury selection isn’t too exciting, but hopefully we hear more later in the week.

Greenspun and Shapiro are the high priced attorneys.

I hope justice will prevail despite parents’ deep pockets.

Any updates? Did they actually start jury selection?

And open the door for a civil suit/suits sooner. According to information on change.org petition, the surviving young woman and her family had to cover most of the medical expenses and are still paying. I hope they sue the Shahid family for all they've got (although they've had almost 2 years to hide the assets) and of course the "promising young man's" future earnings.

Hard to see the family being held liable, and it’s doubtful Usman has much to his name even though his family may be wealthy. And if he gets the sentence he deserves he probably won’t have much of an income for a while.

IF the prosecutor has opening statements tomorrow (Tues), we are going to learn a lot about the strength of their speed/reconstruction evidence.

Oh really?

"Parents can also be held liable for motor vehicle accidents caused by their children under the theory of negligent entrustment. In Virginia, the owner of a vehicle can be held liable if they loan their vehicle to a driver that they knew or should have known was an unfit driver who was likely to cause injury to others."

Literally took .51 seconds with Google - https://www.allenandallen.com/can-parents-be-held-responsible-for-their-childrens-actions/

Are you so lazy that you couldn’t even bother to read the two paragraphs that followed? Literally took 51 seconds.

“Typically, negligent entrustment cases arise when an owner loans their vehicle to a driver who is physically or mentally impaired or who is under the influence of alcohol. These cases can also arise when the owner allows someone to drive their vehicle even though they know that the vehicle is defective.”

“The Supreme Court of Virginia explained the doctrine of negligent entrustment in a well-known decision, Turner v. Lotts…. In other words, the fact that the son had a poor driving record did not – by itself – mean that he was an unsafe driver who would cause injury to others.”
