“Allegedly received” is such a weasel word. It’s not like these pictures just get accidentally shared. If you have them, you’re going to some effort to get them. I get the “allegedly” since he hasn’t been convicted but the phrase together makes it sound like “oh whoops this guy got this horrific image, the creation of which will change or destroy the trajectory of that little girl’s life.” |

Politics aside I just truly, truly do not understand ANY of this. What leads a person to do this? They don’t appear mentally ill. Is it just evil? How can s*x be that important? |

There are those who think that attraction to children might be a naturally occurring (though aberrant) sexual attraction and that an unknown percentage of the population suffers from this as their default attraction. The questions are: is that true, what percentage of people and why are some of those people able to not act on that impulse while others do not control that impulse. The common thinking is that most pedophiles were themselves preyed upon and that turns them into pedophiles, but if you personally know victims of childhood sexual assault (and you do, I guarantee you do), they don’t all turn into pedophiles. So there’s something else there. Anyway researchers have been wanting to research this to figure out what makes people pedophiles, if that can be prevented, why some people don’t offend, can the attraction be changed to an age appropriate group (it’s normal for kids to think other kids are cute and to have crushes, for example, but most of us develop age appropriate attractions as we age), etc. It may not surprise you when I say that Republicans shut the research down, saying that it would “normalize” pedophilia and why would anyone want to research that. Well, duh - so we reduce the number of victims. Shorter answer: pedophiles who prey on children are sick, twisted individuals who should be put away for life. A bigger question for me is why do so many pedophiles gravitate toward the priesthood and the police, and why are they protected in those areas? |

There is no question why. It is a well known and accepted fact that predators seek positions where they have access to children, especially in a role of authority. There is no need to investigate things to which we already know. |

Former Pulaski County Democratic chairman sentenced to 14 years for child porn distribution
A former chairman of the Pulaski County Democratic Party was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to four counts related to the distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, Harold "HL" Moody, Jr. was sentenced to serve 168 months in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and will be required to receive a psychosexual evaluation and participate in sex offender counseling. Moody, who also served as the special events coordinator for Pulaski County Youth Services, is also required to seek treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues, the sentencing said. U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker also ordered Moody to pay restitution to his victim's in the amount of $39,000. Moody, who was arrested in 2018 following an investigation into online child exploitation chatrooms, will serve five years of supervised released after his time in prison and must register as a sex offender. According to the 2018 complaint affidavit, Moody was present in a chatroom twice on Aug. 29 when child pornography was being displayed. Authorities said Moody's face was clearly visible on his webcam and the undercover agent also noticed what appeared to be an office setting in the background. On Sept. 7, 2018, U.S. Attorney Cody Hiland said Moody was again seen in the chatroom, this time distributing child pornography. Among the images that Moody distributed was a video that depicted a nude, adult, male performing oral sex on two nude, pre-pubescent males," a 2018 Justice Department news release said. "According to the complaint, Moody then follows the video with the following chat message sent to all participants of the chatroom: 'not the version i thought.'" Another user requested Moody play more videos. Moody responds via chat message, 'I’ve heard of White privilege but never Perv privilege – i am not the Juke Box at Waffle House...I do not play on demand...'," the news release continued. Authorities said Moody was in the same chatroom again on Sept. 9 and Oct. 12 distributing child pornography. Distribution of child porn carries a penalty of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years in prison, not less than 5 years to life of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
