Former church pastor Albert Benjamin Wharton has 30 felony counts related to “taking indecent liberties with a child under the age of 13 while in a custodial position and eight felony counts of aggravated sexual assault.” The incidents took place over a period from 1981 to 1997. LDS stake president and lobbyist Rhett Hintze is facing charges of not reporting child sexual abuse by Shawn Cory Gooden. Interestingly, in the state of Utah, if a pastor hears a confession of child sexual abuse, pastors cannot report it, but if they hear it outside the confines of “confession,” they are mandated reporters. Seems like a situation ripe for abuse.

A former pastor at Missonary Memorial Church in Aurora, Oregon was indicted on the following counts:

“Three counts of first-degree rape.
Six counts of first-degree sodomy.
Four counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
Three counts of first-degree sexual penetration.”

“The reported abuse occurred in Washington, Clackamas and Marion Counties between 2008 and 2016, and as of Sunday, all the victims have been of Micronesian descent. Additionally, they said Tosie has worked at many other unknown churches in the area as well as Kansas, Minnesota, Hawaii and Iowa.
