Black people are fairly united on this one and yes even the Ivy grads like me. |
Legacy isn't a sure thing though, especially with low SAT scores. |
UT admissions policy is state law. UC admissions know how to get around affirmative action. The colleges will play up strivers' score, and look at getting more minorities thru the essay process. They will also ask for photographs. Kids will be mentioning race and how it impacted them in the essays. White and Asian kids will start dropping hints in the essays as well, just as they might now check mixed race or one of the minority boxes. |
Dropping legacy will come from the elite schools, doesn't matter what the judges want. |
+1 This is my fear as a Korean American. During covid ignorant people assumed my family was Chinese and it got scary sometimes. |
Athletic and legacy =$$$ No way will school drop either. |
| Chicago already planning for looting and teen takeovers in response to court’s ruling. |
+1 Every AA and Hispanic will pepper their essays talking about race and be admitted |
I went to Harvard and my husband went to UPenn. Most black people who went to Ivies are not upset if our kids cannot go. Maybe a tiny minority. We have 3 children and while we won't pressure them to, we'd prefer they go to an HBCU. College is hard enough than to have to also deal with racism. We did it but we don't want them to have to do it. |
Please name the top institution that is 15% black. |
So disgustingly racist. |
Harvard |
The Supreme Court. |
| Economic diversity will be pushed. As it should be. Every AA I have known who has gone to HYP is from an upper class, HHI family. To a lesser extent, but still great extent, the Hispanic and even Asian kids going to the elite schools all come from solid middle if not upper class families. The Cuban and Puerto Rican families I've known who have sent their kids to HYP are about as elite as I can fathom, or at least from professional (law firm partner, surgeon, etc.). Let's dispense with this racial diversity fixation, and focus on what will really make a difference and be entirely fair in the process -- economic diversity. |

So in a nutshell, the beneficiaries of systemic and systematic privilege for 400 years are pissed rich POC have caught up with then in socioeconomic standing and they are getting a little bit of privilege themselves. Got it!
as a Black parent, I'm totally very much interested in seeing how this plays out and to see who the mainly conservative anti-Black people on DCUM will react to the fact that their kids still won't be guaranteed a spot in the Ivys. not bc some Black kid took their spot but bc TO will still flood the pool with TOO MANY candidates continuing to make it a total CRAP SHOOT it is now ! |
