Are TJ college admissions a mess this year?

Yes, it's an epic failure. It's a disservice to the wonderful students, the most hardworking, down to earth, and brilliant young people of their age.

The current admins focused on anything but promoting academic excellence.

The infamous lawsuit and disgusting and long-lasting battle among different activist parties put TJ in a bad lighting and impaired its reputation, which had negatively affected the college admission officers' decision making.

The turmoil around the admission changes inevitably affected the morale and mental health of the teachers and students. Many good teachers left. New teachers don't even know the materials they teach. Many good counselors felt less interested in helping students. Many students were left by themselves to navigate the complex college application process.

Sadly, there are more to list. The school just failed its students. Just ask any current senior how they felt about their prom last weekend, not to mention the ridiculous incident. This year is probably the start of the falling of a great school.

I don't think any of this mattered, and instead colleges are just doing more geographic distribution and looking for other factors over academics.

We’ll see who’s spreading the misinformation after 2023’s number are published. I sincerely hope my sources are wrong. But the low numbers so far were corroborated by multiple parents at TJ.

Yes, it's about 11 students confirmed admission in T5. We will see the final distribution once everyone fill out their destination in TJ destination site.

I’m an alumni interviewer for Princeton and the breakdown of admits by HS wasn’t revealed (to me at least on the portal I can access ). I believe Princeton used to reveal that info to interviewers but recently stopped due to “privacy” reasons. So I don’t think the PP is speaking about Princeton

TJ's impressive. College outcomes have diminished over the past decade, because the quality of candidates also went down as people figured out how to game admissions, but this should be reverse as the new criteria is doing a much better job identifying strong candidates.

Based on "actual data"? What a bunch of garbage. By actual data, I assume you are talking about "overcoming adversity" and "being a first generation college student from Wyoming" instead of having top grades from a rigorous school and good SAT and ACT scores.

Then, once these unprepared kids get into these top schools, they struggle, forcing these top schools to dumb down their classes.

More garbage. TJ kids are scientists, governors, tech billionaires, etc. The results have been spectacular. To listen to you, TJ kids scored well on SATs but failed in real life - but nothing could be further from the truth. The old TJ admissions policies did a fabulous job picking future superstars.
