How much do you drink - be honest

I have maybe 2-3ish oz. wine with dinner a 2-3 nights per week. For the taste, not the effects.

And vice versa I guess. I do find it interesting that so many on here don't drink or drink very little. I have a big social circle in DC and everyone drinks, some people more than others, but most social occasions are parties or big nights out at bars where everyone is drinking. Same with my coworkers. It's strange to me to think that everyone I know in DC is an outlier, but maybe we are. I'm a lawyer so maybe that's part of it.

It also might be your age. 20s and 30s most of my friends drank. Now that we're in our late 40s, many of those same friends have cut back quite a bit, for a variety of reasons: breast cancer, sleep issues, watching their weight, too exhausted from kids, need to drive home (live out in the burbs), etc.

I am late-30s, so maybe this is it. We do all have kids though. I can't think of one friend that I have who doesn't drink

Zero for medical reasons. I don't really go for mocktails either because they make you realize that these kind of drinks are just empty calories.

Mocktails are just too sugary. They look all pretty and fancy but then you realize you've paid $14+ for something that's the caloric equivalent of a Coke. At least Coke is cheap!

Heck, every Sunday, someone in the family hosts and every adult probably has at least 3 glasses of wine that night.

And that's just on a Sunday. Including a night out on Fri or Sat, and then one rando day in the week, and its easy to get to 15 drinks for the week.

Why? Why is it amazing? Lot's of people don't drink.

I haven't had a drop since I was 21, never cared for it, it's poison to the body, I'm now 50.

It’s cultural. When you hang around heavy drinkers, you start to think that’s normal.

Agree that it seems more responders on here maybe don’t have as much of a social life? I go out with friends at least once a week and then probably a date night/party or another event every weekend. There is always alcohol enjoyed. When I don’t have events or outings, I rarely drink but in a busy month or vacations, I definitely have more than 5 a week.

I have a very active social life but as I've gotten older (40s) my health and sleep quality come first. I drink sparkling waters with lime and no one knows the difference.

But people do know the difference? Like if you're at dinner, everyone's ordering drinks, and you order a sparkling water with lime, people know. Nothing wrong with that of course, but I would certainly know if my friends didn't drink alcohol.

You'd be surprised. Most people are too excited for their own drink to come

I wish. Not drinking makes no difference for me.

I was so disappointed when I stop drinking, and none of those things changed.

On average 1-2 glasses a wine a week, usually on the weekend. If I go out to dinners or a social event, it might be 3-4 drinks that week. I feel fine with that amount.

I did dry january, and haven't had a drink since. But before then it was maybe 2x/month? It's been more than that in the past, but that's kind of where I've been for a few years.

I love wine. Typically one glass x1-2 days, none x3 days, 2 bottles over the weekend.

A friend told me I should go for moderation instead. Considering this.

I have an active social life so I have a few drinks one or two nights a week. Most of my friends have similar habits. But if someone is doing dry January or stops drinking, nobody really cares. We are grownups.

Using the word teetotaler insinuates there’s some moral opposition to drinking which I don’t think is true for the people who don’t drink a lot. More just a choice made by recognizing alcohol doesn’t make you feel great and as you get older it impacts you in more ways for a longer amount of time when you drink it.

Maybe something once every 5 years or so. I started getting really bad hangovers in my late 20s so I basically cut it out entirely once my kids came into the picture.

I'll pour 2 glasses of wine a week when cooking and probably drink half. If I go out to eat (once a month?) I'll sometimes get a cocktail. Then I'll drink it we're at a friends house or party--maybe 2 times a month?

My husband doesn't drink at all so this cuts down in what I drink.

I have one drink every few months. I don't have the money for alcohol or the time.
