Carl Rove went after the Evangelical vote, people who were getting political, like Ralph Reed and the Moral Majority, and they joined the Republican party. Opus Dei Catholics have been in ascendance in the church and public and political life and these two religious groups made banning abortion their entire goal. These two groups took over the party.

Roger Ailes, meanwhile, achieved his goal of creating a right-wing news channel and Fox News went extreme and talks to these people and tye many others who moved to the right with them. Rush Limbaugh and the podcasters who followed him riled up people.too.

They want to de-fund government services, so some people still believe they are for small government. What they miss is that they want to also decrease personal freedoms by the use of government control, namely, laws about abortion, but there will be more efforts to keep going after other personal freedoms.
