RM versus Wooton

Anonymous
I have a kid at RM and younger DS’ elementary school in that cluster has had issues with kids vaping.

It starts young and just gets worse.

Not sure if Wootton is any better, but if vaping/drugs/gangs are less of a concern, I would choose that all day, every day.

please. The vast majority of kids at RM are not in IB, and they do fine.

But, yes, if you want a pressure cooker environment with no diversity, choose Wootton.

What does "they do fine" mean? I know we all have different expectations for our kids. At least "get accepted to UMCP" fine? Most non-IB kids have stats high enough for UMCP?

Yes. Believe it or not, there is a contingent of UMC kids (white and Asian too!) who opted not to do IB. They are taking AP classes and will do fine after graduation.

I believe it. I mean I'd not all that interested in IB courses and would also prefer to focus on STEM.

? What does that have to do with anything? Trust me - I know white, UMC kids from RM who have gone on to UMD and other good schools. The non-IB kids ARE NOT all gang members.

Real-estate agents try to spin this to inflate housing prices, but of course, RM is the same as any other MCPS HS. The same kid will do as well as they would anyplace else. The differences aren't the school but the home life and parents.

This is BS. Wootton is culturally diverse as well as racially diverse. This is just a joke. You hate it because it has high achieving kids with intense parents. Enough.

It is one of the least diverse schools in the county especially in terms of SES diversity.

I don't think anyone has said ALL non IB kids are gang members. So, you are right on that front. I think you are also correct that there are kids (again non IB kids) who get accepted to UMD and other good schools. No doubt about that - i mean, how can anyone disagree with that statement?? The real question is how many of non IB kids make it that far compared to Wootton? Not many. So, OP needs to carefully think about whether to put her kid in a school that some kids become successful or most/many kids become successful and what price she is willing to pay. Getting into UMCP is extremely difficult.

Such a PC thing to say but why do you think RM has so many issues?

Nobody anywhere in this thread has said that.

But, if you look at the RM stats without the IB, what the other PPs have said is correct. RM without the IB is pretty much the same as Rockville HS, which isn't that great.

And, yes, admission into UMCP is already very competitive and will become even more so. I'll be happy if my kid goes to UMD!

Wootton is not diverse by MCPS standards. That's a joke.

Not, it isn't. Once again, RM has one feeder MS - JWMS, and it is a lot better than the one feeder MS to Rockville HS. The vast majority of students at RM are not in IB.

All MCPS schools are diverse enough. I want MCPS to teach and my kids to learn. I don't need MCPS to fix perceived social issues. Just f'king TEACH!

JW mom always shows up.

? DP. The RM haters are mostly not RM parents because if they were, they would know that, indeed, lots of UMC at RM are not in IB. They take AP and some even do dual enrollment.

Lots of trolling here.

don't disagree, but that's a whole separate issue.
