The advice we saw on online forums was not to submit if the test scores don't "match" the GPA. U/W GPA of 4.0 included 6 AP, 3 dual enrollment, and multiple high-school honors classes, so the rigor was there. Excellent essay, leadership, job experience, community service, and ECs.

The student has ADHD and does not perform well on standardized tests (max was 1290), but works very hard for good grades and is a strong writer. Even with an A in every AP class, all AP scores were only 3s or 4s. The student did not want the SAT to be the reason for rejection. An SAT of 1300 is about 87th percentile nationally, but probably far below the average test score of admitted UMD freshmen, especially in a limited enrollment program like Smith.

Instead of investing time and money into extended test prep, we invested in ECs/sports, volunteer opportunities, and many hours on essay editing/revision.

Same here. Kid isn’t good at standardized tests. ADHD

I wish we had not wasted time on test prep, because that barely moved the needle. Princeton Review refunded our money.

Rejected. In total shock. High stats (4.6 W, 11 APs, 34 ACT), great ECs, MCPS. We're hoping it's a yield thing, and this doesn't bode badly for DCs RD applications

I don’t think UMD yield protects? I’d reach out to your counselor on Monday to see if error. Has your DC had any other decisions yet?

My DC was admitted for Spring 24 with 3.86 UW and 4.59 W, all H and 9 APs including advanced math, great ECs, recs and essay, 33 ACT. We were surprised she wasn't admitted to begin in the Fall.

Meyerhoff and Banneker Key results don’t come out until April, though, right? So there’s still more waiting to do.

This is not true- You are accepted or rejected from the school first. Then they admit to LEP (Limited Enrolled Programs) so your child can be accepted into UMD and not admitted into Comp Scie, Business and Engineering as a freshman.

Assuming admission to UMCP does the LEP decision come at the saner one or is there a further wait?

+1 not yield protection according to Naviance (MCPS HS) and what I'm seeing on Facebook groups. No evidence of kids denied with those stats. That is shocking. Sorry OP. I would check with HS counselor. Issues with rec form or other teacher recommendations? Essay?

DP.. I don't think that's yield protect for in state students.

There are kids with similar stats who got in.

But, I will say again, college acceptances these days are like the lottery.

The RD applications may be fine. But, I feel your anxiousness. Even with DC's high stats, I was super anxious about DC getting into UMD (which DC did).

+1 it's a tough admit for in state students, especially for MCPS students.

Some admissions person at UMD once said, "This is not the University of Montgomery County"... if they went purely by grades/scores, the school would be mostly made up of MCPS students.

Any idea how they determine honors vs scholars? I have seen a variety of GPAs and test scores. Essays?
