2nd good sunscreen. I use the one below. I'm olive skinned and still use high PPA sunscreen to avoid hyperpigmentation. https://www.caretobeauty.com/us/eucerin-sun-sensitive-protect-dry-touch-sun-gel-cream-spf50-200ml/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1N2TBhCOARIsAGVHQc6-Cm_p_XV2LA5de19NBZryirZthMfSVaZahGyHp35kzI_-o4E0BhoaAjXfEALw_wcB |
I tend to tan but I just got these sleeves more for cold evenings but also longer days when I’m out and wearing sleeveless. https://sparmsamerica.com/collections/best-selling-products/products/sparms-shoulderwrap?variant=22755047669841 |

I also stress about sunburns but it’s really hard to balance that concern against being cool in July/August. I have a few linen dresses with high necks and sleeves and I love them and they are lightweight, but even those I can’t tolerate in midsummer. In addition to being pale, I’m prone to heat rashes and even a 100% natural fabric can give me one if I’m sweating enough.
I have several wide brim hats with a UV rating that help with my neck, back, and chest, and then I just use a good spray sunscreen for shoulders and arms. I also buy mostly maxi dresses for that time of year so I don’t have to worry about my legs, but I still have to put sunscreen on my feet and ankles or I’ll get a burn there. My body was designed to a Nordic climate, and even there I know I’d burn 😂😂😂 |
I agree with this. So many of the recommendations are high neck. I wonder how much time some of these folks spend outside in DC summer. I am the type of person who is cold at temperatures below 80 degrees, and even I can’t bear to have fabric on my neck during summers here. |
| I use oil of Olay with spf 15 every day on my face and neck — if im wearing sleeveless I just add a little to the top of my shoulders. I don’t seem to burn on my arms unless I’m at the beach all day. |
Are you a plus sized 5’1? I’m 5’2, size 2 and I live in dresses. I don’t need to be “slimmed”. |

I've started wearing higher necks or boat necks in the last year simply because no matter what, otherwise my chest will get fried. SPF 50 - whatever - it just burns. I look better and feel better in v neck or slightly lower, but at 50 I've decided that it just isn't worth the skin risk. |
I wear this: https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Friction-Defense-Unscented/dp/B007VC9DKI/ref=asc_df_B007VC9DKI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=366352644172&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5615206087992480065&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007811&hvtargid=pla-467095439958&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=79917582601&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=366352644172&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5615206087992480065&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007811&hvtargid=pla-467095439958 I found I have to apply it all in one direction for it to work, but then it works well. |
NP. I also have big boobs and these dresses make me look pregnant. I need a dress with a waistband that hits an inch or two below my natural waist - anything close to natural or empire waist gets swallowed by my boobs and my waist disappears. The Lands End one is not bad but when I got it to fit my boobs, the rest of the dress (shoulders, waist, etc) was too large. Any suggestions? |
PP here. I know those LE dresses and I sized them by waist and wear a camisole underneath for boob spillage. This is why I love wrap dresses so much, they work for my body type. In another lifetime I used to buy dresses to fit my chest and then tailor them for waist and hips. Lands End used to make these amazing short sleeved wrap dresses in solid colors and 100% soft cotton and of course they don't make them anymore. They were like $20 on sale too. I also ordered the Quince Washable Stretch Silk Wrap Dress too to see how it fits. |
(NP) Ohhh this is cute!!! I like that it’s defined, I Also need a waist |
Go for the cap sleeve t-shirt dress from Nordstrom Rack.that was previously posted. I have similarly styled dresses and love them for summer. Sincerely, 50 year old shorty. |
