So everyone that gets in now a top-notch athlete?

Everyone that gets in now is a top-notch student.

At our FCPS HS it appears the "second" notch. No NMSF, academic award winners, club presidents etc. Just good students that make honor roll for the most part...and ED.

You reviewed the entire application for every kid going to VT in your school?

It "appears" is not an extensive review nor all encompassing. Information on NMSF (press and school), award winners (press and school), club presidents (school and social media) and choice of school (school and social media) is readily available.

Anecdotes don’t really suggest what you’re claiming.

Through various sources: HS communication, newspapers, yearbook, social media and year end senior newsletter, it would not appear the top notch students from my kids' school attend VT. Just an observation. No need to be offended.

DP. Oh well - I guess my anecdote cancels out yours. Many of our HS's top students went to VT. Kind of bizarre the length you go to investigate kids who are not your own. Tiger Mom commitment!
Not investigating. The kids I know and the ones announced as attending VT, don't appear to be the ones that receive academic and activity related public acknowledgements. I went to JMU. They aren't going there either. No sweat.

I always get a good laugh from parents who assume they know what other students' GPAs, test scores, accomplishments, etc. are. They have no clue about any student other than their own.

I was research costs and it looks like direct billed costs (tuition + board/lodging) jumped 10.6% between 2022-23 and 2023-34. That's a large jump! Has this already been discussed? UVA was, iirc, around a 5% jump, and other colleges I'm looking at were around 5-7%

$29266 (2022-23)

The yearbook lists an extensive resume for each student?

Information on GPAs and test scores for admitted students (not on an individual basis, of course) is readily available via SCHEV.

Does it show GPA distribution for each high school?

No, but Naviance for your high school - which is the most relevant - should.

+1 and it can cost a lot less to live off campus, as most do after freshman year. For my junior, tuition, fees, rent, food (basic budget not counting what he pays for himself) comes to about $24k

Less than many DCUMers pay for kindergarten.
