Is Landon worth it?

He's going into high school PP. You're going to have to start to let go. What is going on in class and upcoming tests are his responsibility, not yours.

I understand that not all of the teams are stacked with the most amazing athletes, but when I say my son is not a strong athlete and doesn’t really like sports, I mean he’s at the bottom of the pecking order on rec teams when he’s played and has zero interest in sports otherwise (he’d never opt to watch a game on tv or engage with what’s happening during March madness etc). I get that there are no cut sports but unfortunately the sports he gravitates toward if he has to play are sports which I know are competitive at Landon. We liked what we saw and heard about the academics, but I was very similar to him at his age and I have real concerns about his ability to hang socially and athletically. Was hoping someone with a truly unathletic son might weigh in.

Plenty of unathletic kids at Landon so I wouldn’t worry about that. But most of the boys do enjoy sports even if they aren’t superstars - Will your son be ok having to play sports every day? A suggestion might be to encourage a love of running - could serve him very well if he’s not a team sport kid.

Plenty of options for a non athletic kid - volleyball, fencing, riflery, frisbee. Only need to play a sport two seasons out of three too.

If your son is not too into athletics, not sure I'd advise sending them to Landon even though there are plenty of non-sporty kids roaming the halls.

Landon does offer a robust arts and music program but on top of this the boys are required to compete in athletics after school

Look at Saint Andrews or Bullis if you are open to co-ed options.

Do the boys have enough time for homework in the evenings in upper school with the late sports?

No. They absolutely do not have time for homework. Not a single one of them.

Landon does a wonderful job of building time into the school day for the kids to do their homework - and the culture of the school is such that they actually do that. Most of them have sports (sometimes school and club same night) so they learn that this time management is essential and the school helps facilitate that.

I believe there’s a sample schedule posted on the schools site. It’s a rotating block schedule so it varies from day to day.

Thank you!

Why not go see some campus events and make up your mind that way? Check out some concerts, plays, sporting events, etc.

Yea because the way to land a new family is to see a weekday afternoon game at the stadium with coaches screaming at the players and drunk parents screaming at their kids, the refs and other parrots

We are not talking about the visiting Bullis parents here.
