I seriously doubt that she has a racist bone in her body.
People just like picking apart celebs these days……they hold them under microscopes until they can find something “offensive” about them. Then they collectively cancel that celeb. Before moving on to the next “victim.” ✨ |
Who said she can't make hip hop music?? I was merely conveying what SHE said in an interview as the origin of her name, because early in in the thread there was a mention of it. She used the word dumb. I am totally fine with her making any genre of music she wants. Sheesh. |
Great, maybe you are completely right, but people are getting very bent out of shape over having even a discussion in the issue and any attempt to present factual information. There are people of color who are offended by her - a quick internet search shows that. period It is not just a bunch of racist white people out there raising this. You throw out whitesplaining, but these points have been raised by the black community. |
| Asian here- we have so few actors who look like us starring in big blockbuster movies. There was Joy Luck Club, then Crazy Rich Asians. Now a Marvel movie! I cried when I watched Shang Chi. There were so many references that spoke to me, in a way other movies haven’t. Please find ways to support this cultural shift, not tear it down. |
There is a minority of people (like you) who actively look for things to be offended by whilst the vast majority of people simply don’t give a f*ck. Now run along and find your next outrage because there’s nothing to see here. Oh, and the sheer idiocy of citing the presence of internet content as evidence of anything is laughable. |

I'm very race sensitive and see nothing wrong here. She's great. AA woman |
Whitesplaining. Lol as if you can see through your computer screen. Nice work using hip terminology tho. Obviously “awkwafina” was a take on Black names and obviously she is putting on a blaccent. If you don’t want to see it that’s okay. At the end of the day, she made money in tv sort of putting on a mini minstrel show. As our culture slowly just become browner, which I want, I hope this kind of outrage dies down. Either way, the media know how to push peoples buttons and get ad clicks and it’s through race baiting. |
Your “ obviously” is just another personal opinion, however fervently you hold it. If you genuinely want the race baiting to die down, then stop fanning the flames with your own biases. |
I'm not offended by it at all. I'm not in a position to make that sort of judgment. However, i can read articles that have been published and convey the fact that others (people of color) are apparently offended, as a counterpoint to those suggesting it is only white people judging her. Personally, I think she's funny. But others do not. |

Who exactly is "outraged" here?
OP how old are you? are you black/white/Asian/other? did you grow up in urban/suburban/rural area? did you listen to hip hop growing up? |
Amen! |
You’re funny! Someone who thinks “blaccent” is a thing and that “Black names” are “obvious” — nattering on about the ability to see through a computer screen? rotflmao. Either you believe that language is indicative of at least some social variables or you don’t. You can’t have it both ways. |
Who exactly is "offended"? Smells like trolls spinning up division. |
Totally agree!!! OP is not on here talking about any of the hundreds of white people who have "inner city" personas, she's talking about one of a handful of Asian women who has become a mainstream actress!! *Shocked OP isn't saying Ming Na is acting too much like a white male action hero in Boba Fett. |
What factual information have you presented here exactly??? I haven't seen any, I've seen only your opinion. |
