It is a play on Aquafina. She has explained this multiple times. |
Too shelf trolling. |

Yawn. Black women often have Asian names and wear Asian hair.
But yeah, if you need another reason to be offended, by all means target the Asian woman. |
AA poster here. On Black forums there has been much debate on the cultural appropriation of hip hop done by Justin Timberlake and Eminem. It’s also been discussed on Black Blogs and Black Twitter basically by Black people in Black Spaces. Eminem has even rapped about it in numerous songs. Just because you’re not aware doesn’t mean it’s not happening and then when a Black person comes in to inform you that these conversations have taken place you deny … Geez no wonder these conversations only happen in Black spaces. |
do they? |
knowing where Eminem grew up, you still think he committed cultural approrpriation? He lived in that culture, was surrounded by it. We speak the way others around us speak. That's normal. Happens everywhere, irrespective of race. |
People have reading comprehension issues on this thread. The person didn't profess an opinion about whether Eminem committed cultural appropriation; they only pointed out that it has been debated. |
Yes. South Asian names are common and google how prized Indian hair is in the black community for wigs, it's considered the best of the best. And many Black comedians have made big dollars profiting off of making fun of Asian people. I can't stand it when people dish it but then are quick to get offended. Asians, even collectively (East, Southeast, and South) are a much smaller minority than Black people in this country, with a LOT less representation. This kind of tear down of an Asian woman is a cheap shot. Do better. |

AA who likes Awfwafina.
I've only seen her in Asian centric films and love her comedic timing. I hope she can lay low and keep working. Black Twitter/Forum trolls will get over it and move onto the next person who could be black, could be asian, just wherever the hateraide flows. |
I'm asian and I have a southern accent as I grew up in the south. And I love grits, fried chicken and collard greens. Its normal to pick up on the environment in which you were raised. And I know an asian guy who grew up in queens who sounds just like her! |
NP but yes - SOUTH ASIAN names and SOUTH ASIAN hair. Go look on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace at all the people selling "virgin Indian hair" and come back and tell me what you think about this. Look at how many black women have appropriated Sanskrit-derived or Muslim names like Lavanya, Aliya, Jamal, Suri, etc... But guess what, we don't care! It's fine, use our hair, use our names, they're ancient, lots of people have them, go for it! |
| To those that say she is talentless, in addition tot he other films already mentioned, I also recommend The Farewell. |
The Farewell was so, so good. |
+1 She's very talented. |
Thanks. She was a breath of fresh air in CRL. Guess I need to try the Marvel movie too |
