BOE/MCPS is a mess

Really? It seems so much better now for my kids than when I was an MCPS student 30 years ago. Just seems like the same people find almost anything to complain about but lack the ability to see all the good things. A big part of this seems to be whether a person is able to take personal responsibility for their lives. I notice those who complain expect the school system to solve all their problems.

So you think this Board meeting is no big deal and normal?

DP. I think it's a problem but not a huge one. But they scheduled a meeting for tomorrow to do it over.

Right. Regardless of what you think of the half-days (I honestly don't care that much and think some folks are making a bigger deal of it than it really is), the behavior by the board members in that room was an embarrassment.

The board members need to understand the process and rules and behave in a more professional manner.

And its clear that the board needs to serve in a stricter oversight role. The response from MCPS and some board members when reasonable pushback occurred is indicative of too close a relationship between the two bodies.

The Board should be skeptical of these, and the onus should be on MCPS to show why its necessary. They should not feel comfortable coming to a board meeting expect a rubber stamp approval.

That's the bigger problem here

DP

I agree.

Wait, really? I hadn’t heard that.

Does that mean they could possible take the half days away? Will the schedule change again?

It's just the same set of malcontents complaining about everything. The sky isn't falling.

Yes, in theory--but I really doubt that will happen unless they get a lot of parent pressure. If you care, you should email the BOE members today.

There are some petty complaints on here. This isn’t one of them IMO.
You don’t continue to push a vote until you get your way. That is a huge reason for concern. If you’re turning your head from the YouTube video and telling people to stop complaining, then you’re part of the problem.

I can think that the education my child is getting is wonderful and the individual teachers at the high school are great (for the most part, I think they're great, there's always one or two that aren't so good...). However, the board seems pretty crazy and some what of an s*** show. I didn't see the meeting, but reading the transcript is nuts. Some of the past meetings have been insane too. I hope for better BOE in the future - I'm sure their behavior, poor communication, and poor decision making are not helping anyone.

They aren't revisiting the half days, they're revisiting the change to the start and end date, which they never voted on.

They haven't passed the half-days, so they have to do it tomorrow.

They’re revisiting that in January. Tomorrow is to try yet again to pass the half-day additions.
