While it is baking, make a salad.

Garlic bread.

Maybe tiramisu for dessert(which you can get at Whole Foods or a restaurant/bakery).

Nope - trash is serving your guests something designed to impress rather than something you know they would like. OP I making her decisions based on her guests - that is doing it right.
