There's an entire genre of literature in Japan that is dedicated to "anti-Korean" ideology. You walk into most bookstores in Japan, and there's an anti-Korean section. I'm not even exaggerating.

That said, I don't think all of the animus towards Kei Komuro is because of his rumored Korean ethnicity. I think it's a whole avalanche of things.

Had no idea. Gonna look into this more. The world is indeed interesting.

Interesting? More like sad and base.

Well-attended? This looks like a sparse AARP convention.

Lol. That's just a close-up shot of three protestors.

All look like middle age losers with nothing better to do than to harass two love birds. Talk about not gainfully employed.

So what would be worse in the eyes of the people, marrying the allegedly spotty Kei Komuro or marrying a rich titled Westerner? What if Mako had married Georgiy Romanov? Or the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor?

They can be as stubbornly traditional as they want but the simple fact is that the monarchy is going to go extinct due to the absurdly restrictive house laws and then they will be protecting nothing at all. The entire monarchy is riding on 15-year-old Prince Hisahito. What if something happens to him, or he has no sons? There are very few monarchies with agnatic primogeniture anymore and all of them except Liechtenstein are in countries that also allow plural wives.

I think they should let this monarchy go extinct. I feel bad for the 15 year old boy whose shoulders it all rests upon.
Really monarchies serve no purpose aside from entertainment for the masses.

Why wasn't her brother there to wish her goodbye?

Charming that you find racism "interesting."

Because the father the PPs insist is so caring wouldn’t let him be there. He can’t be seen in public with Mako in case the stain of her evilness reflects on him.

So stupid, it is none of their business who she marries. She is not their pet.

I don't get why they're so upset/controlling. The laws governing the royal women of Japan treats them like trash and chattel to be discarded. They lose all status, title, and rank the minute they marry. So why would she care what the 'people' want, especially if its in contradiction to the man who loves her more than anyone else?

I don't think he will be able to find a wife. Can you imagine the pressure to produce an heir?

Is the royal court system in control or the emperor? I read that even the current emperor could not take his wife on vacation. They seem to be sacrificial lambs for the mob.

I imagine the IHA will, and have been, looking at the bloodlines of all the noble houses of Japan. Basically any girl between 13-15 right now in those families is being eyed closely - bonus points if her mom, grandmom, and all the way back to the great-grandma has had 3 or more sons. If he's lucky they'll wait until he/she are 20 to announce an engagement but I'm thinking he's got until he's 25 a most. By then his 81-year-old Uncle will be gone, leaving just Hisahito, his currently 61-year-old uncle, and his 55-year-old father.

The system. The IHA is like a prison. The imperial couple don't even sleep alone. The royal women don't have their own money, credit cards, or passport. Sound familiar?

Anyway they've broken those women. Prayers for Kako.

I can't say I don't feel sorry for Hisahito but the way the IHA and Japanese National Diet handled the succession crisis by not allowing women to be eligible for the throne or at the very least keep their titles and their sons be eligible - makes it impossible to have any other choices.

They need to find a noble girl - preferably one whose familial background is extremely fertililiy-blessed and the girl herself isn't anorexic - so basically the opposite of Japanese societal norms - and choose her for him.
