Wedding bells for Princess Mako of Japan and Kei Komuro

I can see why she gave up everything for him. He is hooooooot.

P.S. She didn't wear a wedding dress on her day. This is what you get when the Japanese Imperial Family disapproves of the marriage.

She’s cute, I wish them the best. Also, we need to stop caring about “royal” families. It such an anachronism.

I don't 'care' in the emotional the sense. I find them fascinating. Some people will follow aging Sarah Jessica Parker until she dies. Personally I like that the royals provide endless entertainment with new generations produced like clockwork.

In this specific case, you are watching multi-generational abuse of women for entertainment. I hope to God she manages to break free.

She did. And in this case - the world is seeing how abusive the Japanese imperial family is. So kudos. Not everything should be kept a secret.

Her own parents, the Crown Prince and Princess:

- Refused her dowry
- Refused her a wedding dress
- Refused her traditional rites before the family
- Refused to greet her fiance on their shared wedding day
- Refused to even attend the wedding itself
- Refused to allow her younger brother to see her off

Only her sister had the courage to actually psychically hug Mako as they waved her off. Where were they waving her off to? HER WEDDING CEREMONY. They sent her to get married and have a press conference by herself. They should be shamed.

Mazel Tov!

Apparently he announced he was going to study Law in NY a few months after getting engaged and they haven’t seen each other in three years.

Three years is incredible. That their love was that strong. She fought for him and that marriage while surrounded night-and-day by courtiers who would have done anything to stop it.

Congratulations to them! Ultimately she will be happier being out of the public eye as a commoner.

This is her saying goodbye to her dad and the rest of her family are in the background. She is entitled to the dowry by law, she can’t be denied it, she refused it. That’s class, she is telling her detractors keep your money, my intentions are pure.

I really don't understand how this family can look at 3 generations of women who have had massive emotional breakdowns, and yet maintain this level of rigidity. Her parents DIDN'T HUG THEIR DAUGHTER GOODBYE. That's cold.
I hope she makes lots of artsy friends in New York, and she and her hot husband have a great life.

I'm not sure what your point is here but she is bowing to the gathered news media. The man standing next to her is driver/bodyguard. Her father, her mother, and her sister are all in the background on the other side of the car where they remained instead of traveling with her to her wedding.

Other that I agree with you. It was a big f you all, I don't need your money, to not take the dowry but it always was a huge act of shame from her father not to insist that she receive it especially knowing she's moving to New York City immediately and must now provide everything for herself.

Poor thing. If the marriage does not work, she will be all alone

She would be the ninth Japanese princess to be married to a “commoner”. Her own mother was a commoner. In Japan it was expected she would lead a private life as many of her predecessors have.

No one stopped her marriage but it seems her fiancée was reviled. I hope she has the happiest of endings and enjoys her privacy in NY.

The Imperial Household didn't want her mother marrying into the family either. Fortunately or unfortunately as a woman Mako is automatically ex-communicated upon marriage, so it was going to happen regardless.

I do wonder if they'll let 26-year-old Kako marry anytime soon though or if she even has a suitor she desires.
