+2. I've been saying this whole pandemic that the moves by Robert White, Janeese Lewis George, and others have been about shifting power to WTU. Everything they've done has been to benefit WTU at the expense of children, including keeping schools closed, delaying reopening, legislation to allow WTU members to serve as SBOE reps, and moving control from the Mayor to SBOE (SBOE is a bunch of WTU supporters, some of them even former WTU members). Don't forget that Fenty lost the election when he removed some of the worst teachers. The union demonized him as taking away good jobs from blacks, and post-election surveys showed this is why he lost. It's unbelievable when people pretend that WTU doesn't have any real power. Total gaslighting. |

The act abolished the District of Columbia's elected board of education and created a new office, the chancellor, who is appointed by the mayor, serves as the chief executive officer of the District of Columbia Public Schools, the public school district in Washington, D.C. Fenty selected Michelle Rhee as Washington's first chancellor, and this galvanized education reformers nationally. ... Not even just teachers, what about teaching assistants? DCPS is the only one in this area that requires at least 48 college credits yet pays minimum wage and the highest is a little above. The majority aren’t even full time even though they work the same time on paper. Mayoral control needs limits IMO, better than the school board. |
