Jeff directed this here, so I'll stick it here instead: https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1450150223771275264 I can't figure out how to link a screenshot, but Yglesias says ending mayoral control is a bad idea, and provides reasons. I think this was to be expected, given the Weeds episode about school reopenings.
+1 Lotta good points here.
+2. I've been saying this whole pandemic that the moves by Robert White, Janeese Lewis George, and others have been about shifting power to WTU. Everything they've done has been to benefit WTU at the expense of children, including keeping schools closed, delaying reopening, legislation to allow WTU members to serve as SBOE reps, and moving control from the Mayor to SBOE (SBOE is a bunch of WTU supporters, some of them even former WTU members). Don't forget that Fenty lost the election when he removed some of the worst teachers. The union demonized him as taking away good jobs from blacks, and post-election surveys showed this is why he lost. It's unbelievable when people pretend that WTU doesn't have any real power. Total gaslighting.
