Bill Maher attacked Biden

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said that while he thinks President Joe Biden “did well” in his State of the Union, he should stay in his basement like he did in 2020 because whenever he does interviews and press conferences, he messes up and looks like a “zombie” and the State of the Union was good because it was on a teleprompter and Biden only had to go off script every so often.

Maher said, “I think the strategy that Joe Biden should employ if he wants to win this election is just to come out every once in a while. I’ve been — when I first said he is going to be Ruth Bader Biden — and I still think that may be the possibility, I still think we still would do better with a younger candidate, but okay, maybe not, we’ll see. He did well last night. But everybody said, and I said, well, he can — I don’t think he’s doing a bad job as President, he can do the job, I don’t think he can win the job, because it’s a grueling thing to run for President. And everyone said, yeah, well, he can’t do what he did last time because there was a pandemic, stay in his basement. Yes he can. No one gives a shit about that, … the chattering classes will talk about it, and the public will [say,] what do I care, I don’t want to watch this all the time anyway, I don’t need to see him every day, he doesn’t need to go around the country. Stay where you are, every once in a while, make a speech like this. Trump proved in 2016 — he saved all his money and put one big ad at the end and people liked it better, they weren’t sick of him.”

I agree with him in action but not intent. I'd rather have Biden working at the Whitehouse than campaigning.

Everyone knows who Biden and Trump are by now. Very few people are undecided, so campaigning will be pointless. Just let the political ads sway the true independents.

Biden is more effective in his sleep than Trump and all the Republicans in Congress combined because he sets an agenda and delegates authority to the appropriate officials to carry it out. Republicans apparently think Trump saying stupid shit all day every day is leadership.

Maher has said much worse about Trump which makes sense because Trump is much worse in most ways. Trump and Biden are the two weakest presidential candidates we've ever had run in the same election. Much weaker than they were in 2020. Their weaknesses provide for great comedic moments on late night TV. Prepare yourself for a sad and disgusting 2024 election with a few laughs mixed in if you have a sense of humor.

I would agree that Biden didn't fall, space out, get caught buffering, or totally lose it at the SOTU. "Just fine?"

He had a teleprompter to assist him. He did manage to flub up despite the teleprompter.

What we saw yesterday in Pennsylvania is what we can expect on the campaign trail.

Telling the Pennsylvania voters to send him to Congress (clearly, forgetting what he is actually running for)
The Capitol that came under assault - on July 6.
Every leader in the world grabbing his arm and telling him "You can't win again."

And, that was just 3 of his gaffes. We'll see how he performs in Atlanta today. I expect more gaffes.
Bill Maher has a point. He probably should stay in the basement. But, in doing so, it sends the message to voters that he is not up for the rigors of the job. The same is true if he chooses not to debate.
So, he is in a no-win situation.
