DD Missed Try Outs

For a 100% legitimate reason. She reached out to the coach, briefly explained the situation, and asked if there was a way to 'make up' the try out, maybe practice for the first two days as an audition.

Coach said simply, "Sorry, no. Roster is full"

Well, today DD came home from school and explained that two spots were 'held' for two other girls who are currently injured and unable to try out.

Would you contact the AD and Principal?

No.

Your kid missed tryouts. Clearly coach did not think the reason was legit.
MYOB take care of your own kid.

If the injured girls were on the team previously that was why their spots were held.

Sorry about this.

But even if she tries out do you think she’ll make the cut? More likely if you press on the coach will let her tryout just so he can say he let her try out, but will still hold the spots for the two injured girls.

No, because 1) you would have named the "legitimate reason" if it were a really good one, so it isn't and 2) you don't know the facts of the two injured kids, you are taking your kid's biased retelling

That's not how try outs work. Being on a team one season is not a promise to be on the team another season. You'd think someone on a sports forum would know that.

I'm sure someone on the sports forum would know that is how it works if they were starters.

Get off your high horse.

Yeah, but if the two girls were some of the top players the previous year...clearly, the coach knows their capability and will reserve slots for them.

OP, I don't know what to say. My kid's tryouts were 1 day and the roster was posted that night. HS teams have limitations on how many kids are on the roster at least for my kid's division.

I don't know what my kid's coach would do in your situation, as they would have to cut somebody that they said made the team to allow your DD to participate.

That isn't true with most sports. I've seen baseball teams carry as little as 20 and as many as 40.

If you child's excuse was religion (like after sunset on Friday) or medical I think the coach is unreasonable. since the other girls reason was medical then it is reasonable.

Also, whether you like it or not, super stars get to make the team even if they are unable to make tryouts.

Nope, still isnt how it works. "Starters" have crap seasons all the time.

And was the coach notified before or after she missed tryouts? Was she registered to try out?

Some sports are cut sports and a student not showing up is an easy way to make a cut.
