Bored--rank these for me!

I am bored and procrastinating doing my vacuuming. My DD applied RD to the following schools and I'd like feedback on which order you would place them and why. They are listed in alphabetical order. Ignore cost in your decision making. Just interested in perceptions and speculation. If she doesn't get in to any of these, she will go to UMCP where was admitted EA, and which she is completely happy with and considering.

Amherst
Bates
Hamilton
Kenyon
Swarthmore
Tufts
Wesleyan
William & Mary (OOS)
Williams

LACs are only good for med or law school. Not sure how these schools would translate to a career right after college

Rank for what?

I’d put them all below the top 100 national universities. If your kid needs a SLAC though, go for it. They are all about equal.

W&M if in-state VA. Save for grad school

I see you snuck tufts in there but I’d go with UMCP over that.

Ignorant comment. LACs have incredible outcomes because they teach students how to think. Clearly you did not attend one.

Correct. I went to Yale. Heard of it? Most people outside of recruiters are not familiar with LACs.

I know grads from each of these schools. I indicated what they do now. I ranked by how impressed I am by them as people. Now go do your vacuuming!

Amherst - successful doctor
Williams - writer
Swarthmore - VP, hospital
Bates - teacher
Kenyon - philanthropist
Tufts - masseuse
Wesleyan - pilot
William & Mary (OOS) - insurance salesman
Hamilton - realtor

This would be my personal, idiosyncratic, worthless-for-everyone-else order of preference:

Amherst
Williams
Kenyon
Tufts
Wesleyan
William & Mary (OOS)
Hamilton
Bates
Swarthmore

1st tier - strong appeal to me based on what I've heard grads say, liberal arts focus

Swarthmore - intellectual, near local to DMV
W&M - a classic, nearby

2nd tier - location/geographic preferences for Boston, Massachusetts, NY State
Amherst
Hamilton
Tufts

3rd tier
Bates - why Maine? So many good schools closer
Wesleyan-know nothing about it
Kenyon--less brand reco on East Coast

My advice is worth what you paid for it. You should probably vacuum and I should go throw a load of laundry in.

FWIW, I currently live in the Midwest and grew up in 3 states...so have been around. But have East Coast WASP roots.

I know a ton of people who went to Yale. Most are incredibly kind and none are dicks. Makes me doubt you.

Great list and I’m just happy that we only have 2 overlaps. Good luck to your DD!
