I want to lose some weight while being very lazy about it. I don't cook and don't want to, which includes chopping up vegetables and food prep.
What are some easy high protein/fiber foods I can buy ready made? Or good easy low calorie snacks/meals? I was thinking of frozen meals but I don't if there are any good high protein ones (I remember the Lean Cuisine ones with the small serving of pasta from eons ago). I am a Costco member, and I bought a big tub of chicken salad only to realize later it was packed with calories. If it hadn't been, it would have been perfect. Soup also works for me but it isn't high protein from what I can tell. Just need something I can microwave and/or ladle out onto a plate. I know this sounds sad...but it's where I'm at. Can someone advise me? |
Sprinkle ground flax seed on Greek yogurt |
There are high protein soups on Amazon |
GEt a bunch of bags of pre-made salad mix. Costco has a lot. Get a bunch of bags of any ready-made protein- chicken strips/nuggets, shrimp, deli meat, beans, tuna Get a salad dressing. Mix. done. |
Meal delivery service. Territory or mighty meals or others if in this area. Anything frozen or shelf stable isn’t very healthy for you. Eat real food. |
I'm in the boat OP. I did start making breakfast burritos for breakfast with low carb tortillas, beans and eggs and I freeze 8 of them at a time I chop up and bag peppers cucumbers and carrots. I get frozen southwestern quinoa chicken bowls at aldis for lunch. Sometimes I do a pre-made salad bowl from aldis for giant for dinner and a protein bar and fruit for dessert. I also chop up amd freeze celery and cucumbers for a green smoothie. So a little bit of prepping but not too much |
News flash: "real" food can be frozen after it is prepared. I do it all the time with my meal prep and leftovers. |
I like Greek yogurt with frozen fruit. (Frozen just to have it last longer and so I don't need to chop anything).
Or Greek yogurt with spices stirred in to use as a dip for veggies (I buy a lot of celery sticks so I don't have to wash and chop). I use a seasoning blend or garlic powder and dill or whatever sounds good together in the moment. |
For soups - look for one that have high fiber/protein grains or beans. Things like lentils, farro, quinoa, barley, peas, etc. Rotisserie chicken and a bagged salad that has spinach or kale in it are good options as well. And then eat more fruit and raw veggies (often prepackaged). |
So does everybody else that will cook their own food. OP said they aren’t willing to do that. Buying big box frozen food is usually a bad idea. Thanks for the NEWS FLASH though. |
Greek yogurt
Nut butters Deli meat (not particularly healthy though) Roasted chickpeas |
Avocados are crazy high in fiber and fat and very filling.
1. Smashed up avocado on that high fiber German fitness "bread" (sold at whole foods). You must toast the bread; it is practically inedible otherwise. 2. Amy's frozen meals, add an avocado and greek yogurt to make it more filling Also eating smashed tinned sardines on rye toast is quite good. Maybe add some lemon juice or a little mustard. |
avo toast is a good option. terra fina quiches from Costco are good option. The beans burritos from the frozen section, lentil soup with a dollop of greek yoghurt is a good option. Get the chicken tortilla soup from Costco, add 1 cup of chicken broth and 1 can of beans to it, and some greek yoghurt on top. The wheat tortillas from Trader joes - toast these with beans ( from a can) and a handful of cheese - after toasting add sliced avocado, a handful of salad mix on top, roll up and eat. You can add TJ pico to add more flavor. Juts eat a lot of beans with avocado and greek yoghurt. Get pinto or black beans and heat, mix these in. Get white beans- heat up and mix in some pesto and arugula, sprinkle some parm on top.
I love to cook and make a pot of beans every week and swirl stuff in to eat for lunch the whole week. My go too are white beans with Italian stuff and black beans or pinto or other heirloom Mexican beans (bean club member) with pico, yogurt and some Mexican cheese mix swirled in. |
News flash Part 2: OP clearly and specifically states he doesn’t want to prep meals. To freeze or otherwise |
Forgot to mention canned sardines or even smoked salmon |
