What can be done to save this man? Has anyone organized? Is there somewhere that I can donate to? Thanks in advance. |
He received justice when a jury convicted him of second-degree murder, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice https://dcist.com/story/22/12/21/terence-sutton-guilty-verdict-second-degree-murder/ |
I hope he appeals and wins. I don't know why anyone would be a police officer in the district with stories like this and laws that tie the hands of officers. TBH - I don't know how anyone even LIVES in the district with some of their crazy ass laws that seem to favor the criminals over the victims. The guy fleeing the officer was a criminal. A criminal. And, the officer was prevented from mounting a full defense. |
Does that excuse the police officers' actions? I don't think so, and the jury also didn't think so. Apparently I have higher expectations of our police officers than you do. |
Oh, please. From the article linked: But Sutton, a 13-year police veteran, did not strike, shoot, harm, or even touch Hylton. Hylton died after exiting a blind alley on a motorized scooter and being struck by a passing civilian vehicle. He had multiple drugs in his system. He ran through stop signs and red lights in the minutes before he drove into oncoming traffic. Sutton followed Hylton at a moderate speed, averaging 30 miles per hour. Seems to me as if this officer was simply doing his job. No high speed chase. The guy killed himself. |

He got justice. He was convicted.
That’s justice. |
| Law and order, amiright? |
No, the office was not simply doing his job, unless his job includes pursuit in violation of policy, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. He was charged, there was a trial, a jury found him guilty. |
I'm sure he has a prison canteen fund you can contribute |
This was mob justice. If you are a cop, get out of the district. Find a job in a jurisdiction that will support you doing your job. |
| I really think this is the biggest reason crime has skyrocketed in DC while declining elsewhere. We’ve neutered police and sent an innocent officer to jail because a criminal can’t drive. Innocent people have died as a result. |
He violated policy and then covered it up. I don't want my police doing either one, let alone both. |
| Freaking ridiculous. Why anyone would be a cop here is beyond me. |
It was literally due process and the rule of law. |
A jury of his peers found him guilty. |
