What happens if your child films a fight at school during school hours? Do they get in trouble for filming it? |
The Principal will remind the school community to give privacy and not film. However we know that will not happen. |
Tell your child not to record fights. |
My child didn’t record it. My child was the victim unfortunately. |
No consequences. Just like with everything else in MCPS.
Sorry about your kid, OP. Hope he is okay. |
Too bad they don't have RJ at your school. That usually works wonders with these situations. |
+1. Because the video makes the school administration look incompetent. |
Yes there is consequences for the kid that films at least at our MCPS high school.
In the case I know of personally, the kid filming and sharing received a five day suspension. The kids fighting received a ten day suspension plus a hearing before they could come back. |
Seems like as long as it is not shared on line, a video could be helpful to school admin. |
Or sharing with friends. |
I am very sorry OP. Well the answer depends on many things. If the video is being spread then the person who spread it could be in a ton of trouble. They filmed a minor and then spread that on social media in MD there is a defamation clause that can be used in a court of law. Especially in the case of a minor. I would file a police report. |
+1 |
Which high school is this? This has not been the case at our high school. |
Our school disciplined kids who did this.
Personally I think they should not discipline kids if they take the video immediately to admin, their parents or police, and then delete it. Those kids are providing useful evidence, not spreading trouble. |
Of course, MCPS only cares about optics. |
