Early Predictions 2028: AOC, Whitmer, Newsome or …?

Those were anti-Trump votes. The 2028 Dem nominee will be in the same fortunate position Biden was in but let's take those 2028 votes with a POTUS winner who will be viable in 2032 as well. Better days ahead.

Lol.. Clinton didn't have "great" name recognition in 1989 nor did Obama in 2005. Now, let the young crop of hopefuls debate and campaign on a level playing field and we'll see who the cream of the crop is.

Remember the 2008 Dem primary that produced the most recent successful two term president we could be proud of? Speculators from 2005 to 2007 thought John Edwards and Biden would give HRC a legitimate challenge for the nomination with perhaps the up and coming Senator from Illinois making some noise. By January of 2008, it was clear that HRC and Obama were the cream of the crop while the much weaker Edwards and Biden were out of their league when put on the same stage as legitimate POTUS worthy candidates.

You are an obvious demoralization agent, constantly lurking on here counseling us not to worry, not to think, not to wonder who our party leaders are, but just to sit back and trust a "level playing field" DNC primary to deliver us a candidate who will magically win back the white house for us without us ever having to worry our little heads about what voters want. You say that we'll easily win without effort because Trump's approval ratings are low, but you never seem to mention that our party's approval ratings are even lower. What kind of person lurks on a political message board constantly telling people not to talk politics?

Who is telling you not to talk politics? Yes, we should be talking and yes, we need to hope for a very competitive 2028 primary that produces a solid two-term POTUS. I'm not ruling anyone in or out until I see them standing next to one another debating live for all to see who is the real deal.

All three are better than Trump on their worst days.

The American electorate is ignorant.

"Better than Trump" is an unacceptably low bar for a POTUS candidate.

But Mayor Pete is the total package: smart, young, wonky, articulate, and a member of an oppressed group (gay/trans). He literally IS Democracy.

I like Buttigieg and I think he is a solid executive but as a political realist I must point out that he has two flaws in his political history that gives me reservations about his strength as a POTUS candidate. He has campaigned vigorously for the POTUS position before and was forced out of the race without being a top 2 or 3 consideration for the nomination and secondly, he was a cabinet member of a very unpopular one term POTUS. Disassociating from close ties with a historically unpopular POTUS has proven to be a difficult thing to do.

The third flaw - a poll from this summer showed that Buttigieg has 0% support among Black people. How could he possibly get the nomination if he can't get any support among the Black population?

Or is this oppression Olympics? Hey, we've had our first Black president so let's try to get our first gay president!

You forgot the part about Mayor Pete being a feckless idiot who never accomplished anything in his life, which puts him on par with Obama, Biden, & Kamala, & makes him the obvious 2028 candidate.

We keep telling them that they are ignorant not to like our platform or our results, but for some reason this doesn’t make them vote for us. How many times do we have to call them ignorant before they bow to their bettors? Do they even understand that three of the top 5 wealthiest counties in the country are now in dcurbanmom country? That should prove to them once and for all that people in and around the Federal government are a natural aristocracy that should not be questioned. How dare these idiots not vote for Hillary or Kamala?! The New York Times endorsed both grande dames, for crying out loud. New rule, no-one who owns a pickup truck should be allowed to vote.

At the rate mayor Pete fails upward, he’ll soon be not just president but king of the world.

Mayor Pete is a natural favorite among laptop class affluent Democrats. He represents their values: McKinsey, CIA, articulate, gay married. A servant of The Establishment. The problem is that he has limited appeal to swing voters or minorities, not to mention he’s short, so he can’t win a general. But affluent blue city types will make him “a thing” in the primaries, which isn’t helpful.

The easy way for us to win in 2028 would be new mandates for jabs. Anyone who refuses loses the right to vote. Or we could do citizenship oaths. Anyone who refuses to put the Constitution above their flying spaghetti monster loses the right to vote.

See also JD Vance. Once you come to terms with the fact all of these pols are dimwitted do-nothing actors installed into office you stop caring so much. It’s all fake. Voting is an illusion of control. We have no control. The same billionaires, banks, and international corps control everything.

But we still want to see Vance and Buttigieg debate and wrestle

Hope is not a strategy. We the people need to choose our champion now, not wait for the corrupt DNC to organize debates with only their pre-approved candidates (and their favorites among those getting the questions in advance.)

"We have plenty of time. We just need to hope. We don't need any impressive Democrats yet." Not only is this wrong, it's simple, boring, and repetitive. And yet you take great pains to post it again and again and again on here. You have no ideas about who might be a good candidate, and yet you are the single most prolific poster in all the "who should our candidate be?" threads. Curious.

DNC primary process has gotten steadily worse and there is no sign of it getting better. In 2016 they cheated Bernie out of the nomination to help Hillary, in 2020 they made all the candidates drop out in the same day to give it to Biden, and in 2024 they prevented primary challengers entirely.

Since nobody on this thread seems to like any current potential Democratic candidate, I’m wondering what person, alive or dead, you would consider as an ideal candidate for this era. I suspect some of you are looking for unobtainium.
