What is the consensus on eating eggs if you have high cholesterol?

Dr told me my LDL is high. There is conflicting data regarding egg consumption and high cholesterol. Dr said eat 3-4 per week. Other sources say egg consumption doesnt have a large effect on cholesterol.

I believe that you will have better cholesterol if you decrease sugar and refined flour and eat more plants without restricting eggs. I have 3 eggs most mornings and my cholesterol is at good levels. I eat a pretty clean diet so I think that helps.

I dropped eggs significantly and my LDL came down. Not sure it it’s related.

What's your HDL? That matters too.

I eat about 10 eggs a week, my LDL is low. that said I didn't start out with a high cholesterol issue.

I have high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease and early MI and my cardiologist (whom I saw just because pcp wanted me to establish care because of family history) said eggs are fine and he has no concerns about dietary cholesterol.

I have high LDL and eating eggs/not eating eggs doesn't make a huge difference. I have 2 eggs on average once a week, but I also eat cheese, and other full fat dairy. Cutting down sugars, highly processed grains, and proinflammatory oils and foods and adding in lots of omega (you have to supplement) is probably the first thing I would do, if that is part of your diet.

Eggs are fine now. The cholesterol we eat is not the problem.

Kind of my experience too. I ate meat and fish and 15 eggs a week but no sugar. In only two weeks, I had the best bloodwork ever.

You can't crowd source this. People's cholesterol issues depend a lot on genetics. Some people's levels respond well to dietary changes, others don't.

Dietary cholesterol is ok but it’s best to not go overboard, check your numbers again and see how it is working for you.

Reduce saturated fats, sugars and processed food instead

NP. So cut down on sugar, even sweet products that are cholesterol free?

Last year my cholesterol was high and my doctor said get it down or we will have to talk statins.

I made dietary changes in keeping with my doctor’s recommendations and am increasing movement.

My dietary changes included eating spinach, sun dried tomato and garlic quiche almost every day for breakfast- so basically an extra large or jumbo egg every day plus a little over an ounce of cream.

Lowered my cholesterol 30 points total so far and improved the ratios.

Dietary sources of cholesterol are only an issue for people who have a genetic tendency toward very high cholesterol levels.

Yes. My cardiologist recommends low carb or even keto if you can manage it.

Ouch, a cardiologist recommending keto is so wrong. Atkins died of heart disease, and research shows keto diets drive CAD while the newest research shows saturated fats drive insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.

Yes keto will drive weight loss, but it is not healthy as a long term lifestyle.

OP, I'm in the same boat. My doctor (PCP) said to limit eggs. I'm not sure she's on top of the science on that fwiw. But also my numbers are not good, so I'm going to try limiting eggs and saturated fats, increasing veggies, fiber, and healthy fats, and see where that gets me.
