| My tween son wants to paint his toe nails. Is this a fad or does it indicate a future as a cross dresser? |
| could be an emo/goth thing or a punk thing. teen/tween boys do weird things, as do teen/tween girls. depends on what color he wants to paint them. if the answer is "pink", I'd be leaning toward "maybe" on the cross-dressing thing. I suppose it could be worse, though. painted toes is more subtle than a giant mohawk or a skull tattoo. |

Are you serious?
If he's experimenting b/c he may actually be gay, would you love him any less? |
| Have you asked why? |
| I vote for back off and don't make a big deal about it. |
| Yeah, let him do his thing. I know it may feel weird, and you may feel worried, but try not to let it get to you. He'll be fine. |
| Please do not say this to him....asking him if he is a cross dresser that is. Think back on the hair bands of the 80s. |
| If he were my tween son, I'd let him roll with it and not worry. |

Ask him what color, and who he's copying. Provide the color. Join him. Or not. I fail to see the problem.
It's either a rock/punk/goth thing, or something else. Either way, he is what he is and your reaction to it will not change it. |
| I think he is probably old enough to be able to decide what color he wants his toenails. |
| No biggie. I've seen young men do it. They are all straight. |
| What's the harm in letting him do it? It's not permanent. |
Unless emo or a rock star doing black for some party or something....I have never seen nor have my teens a guy painting their nails. Casually ask why he wants to paint and what color. I assume he has other fashion requests [or will] for clothes and hair. |

It's nail polish, not a tattoo. I agree with the PP. Ask what color he wants and get him the best brand. Hell, take him with you. Make it a bonding experience. At least he didn't ask, and then showed up with hot pink on his toes and put his feet on the coffee table for all to freak out about.
