Any insight? I'm out of town and my husband is on first for getting them to school and wondering what the chances are that school will be delayed or canceled. Any insight from either those in the know or long time dcps parents? |
If we get the exact same weather we got today, then there will definitely be a two hour delay. Most sources are calling for a wintry mix during the AM commute, so I think two hours is more likely than a full cancellation. |
I would suggest you let your husband deal with it and not worry about it! Learn to enjoy it. |
Could you be any more condescending and unhelpful? |
np: She has a point. |
80% chance of snow, but because the Mayor is still in charge, it’s less likely there will be a delay let alone a cancellation. She’ll even put out an extra plow or two just to “prove” she’s addressing the issue.
She usually follows what the surrounding counties do, but ever since the contention between the teachers not supporting her re-election bid and the ongoing squabbles over the contract negotiations, it’s less likely that she’d do anything to help them out. Sorry, but you and your husband may want to get back in time so he can properly prepare for another school day. Best of luck, regardless. |
We're getting 2-4 inches of snow when all is said and done on Tuesday morning. Much of it will fall during the night. I highly doubt roads and schools will be ready in time on Tuesday. DCPS will likely have a delay. Surrounding school systems will likely close outright. Stay tuned. |
No, she doesn't. OP asked a question that was germane to her life, her circumstances and her need for information. She didn't ask for some judgmental woman to opine on her family or the division of labor within. |
Where are you seeing this prediction? My Weather app is saying snow will end before midnight and that we're looking at 2" total (including what's falling right now). I think we have a two hour delay because they'll call it when it starts snowing at night, but I'm not seeing anywhere near as much snow in the forecast as this thread is predicting. |
Delay. Unlikely to be a cancellation |

^ PP who posted the snowfall map above. Please, do not ever rely on weather apps! They use inaccurate data. You have to use National Weather Service predictions, listen to Capital Weather Gang at WaPo, and generally use better information. That being said, model predictions didn't give us a lot of lead time with this system. Usually predictions are more bullish than what actually ends up on the ground. With this weather event, it's the opposite, for once! We saw last night snow's band just a few hours before it happened (that's why roads were untreated this morning), then thought there was going to be a lull today before more snow this evening... but no, it's still snowing in much of the area. So... plan for at least a delay, I think. |

Most likely a two-hour delay, but if lots of other systems are closed (especially mcps, where lots of teachers live), dcps could be, too. No way dcps opens on time given current forecast. |
Who are you people whose husbands can problem-solve?! Where do you find husbands who can do this? Mine needs an engraved decision tree and even then will need a million texts for validation and direction on every single point. |
