50/50 split of assets with SAHM

Do you think this is fair in cases where the husband made all the money and the wife stayed home with the kids? Net worth of around 10 million, 3 kids who are grown or teens, 20 year marriage.

Wife is fighting for a 50% split plus alimony. Hasn’t worked in over 17 years.

She’s not getting alimony but I don’t think she should get 50% of the money. Maybe 10-20% so she is not destitute but even that is generous.

Of course it's fair.

A guy with that much money should know how to hide it.

She has worked, she just hasn’t worked for pay. What would your life have been like if she hadn’t been doing the childrearing and household management?

She should get 100k as seed money to start over and see what she can do with it.

Definitely not millions for being lazy and sitting on her ass for 17 years.

5 million is still plenty to start over and be happy with someone else.

If you’re not in a community property state, it’s very unlikely she’ll get 50% anyway. Those states do take into account who made the money and they don’t reward layabouts.

She might not get anything.

You don’t get to decide how much she gets. The court does.

I suspect if she had left the family and the dad became a single father raising those kids, he would not have had the time to devote to his career to make that much money.

Marriage is a partnership, yes, she should get 50% of money earned during the marriage.

Absolutely.

Half the assets, but no alimony.

Who cares what you think is fair? Let the judge sort it out. You definitely benefitted from her unpaid labor.

It doesn’t really matter what’s fair to you, all that matters is the laws in your jurisdiction and anything enforceable you signed along the way.

I mean you probably hate each other in at least one direction right? That’s why you’re getting divorced. So probably fairness is off the table already.

Bullshit. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

I’d rather pay alimony - 5k a month or something - than give her 5 million dollars!!!!

She did nothing to earn this money.

My guess is that you would have not had that much money as a single parent with 3 kids. Would you have had this much success if you had to leave every day at 5 pm to pick up kids, take numerous unplanned sick days, work shorter hours in summer, etc?
Your wife staying home contributed to you being able to make that much money.
