| Whether it's 25 35 55 or 70 mph, I set my Tesla cruise at precisely the speed limit. Without fail drivers behind me become unglued and pass me super aggressively, sometimes illegally so across a double line, and then flip me the bird or scream out their window. I think some may suspect I am on my cell phone and distracted? But I never am. I just drive exactly the speed limit everywhere I go. |
| It's your stupid Tesla not the speed op. |
|
No, it’s probably the speed. Although you might think you’re being a good citizen by driving at exactly the posted speed limit, the reality is that most of the roads can be safely driven on 10-15 mph above the posted limit.
I also bet you’re the type of driver that takes much longer to get up to the posted speed limit, and I’m also betting you are the kind of driver that probably sit’s at green lights for 5 seconds before moving. Driving in the area is bad enough as it is but it’s drivers like you that make the situation worse. |
| Because it's annoying and unsafe. If there's only one lane, pull over and let people pass. |
|
Exhibit A of why Teslas are widely known to now be the worst drivers.
OP you're not driving on an empty country road. Do NOT use cruise control in the DC area. |
I'm not risking a ticket. And speeding and reckless driving is unsafe, not me. And I doubt you're an ER surgeon on call needed to go save a life. Your speeding doesn't even get you anywhere any faster. You're just raging and need to relax. And sadly, the streets are full of crazies like you who think law abiding drivers are the issue. YOU are the issue. |
| I have this problem too. I generally drive somewhere between the speed limit and 5-10 mph over. I generally stay to the right. People get aggressive and tailgate me. If someone is behind me pissing me off and I have the time, I slow down even more. The tailgaters are the ones who are "annoying and unsafe." |
| As long as you aren’t in the left lane you are fine and they are irritable idiots. If you are in the left lane doing that you are the problem. If it’s a single lane road you’re also fine-there are people who don’t ever speed and that’s fine, despite the weirdos who will post saying you are a menace. |
| I don’t drive a Tesla and don’t use cruise control, but I also go the speed limit. Many people get super annoyed as OP describes. They can do whatever they do, I’m not breaking the law because “I think the road is safe for 10-15 mph higher.” I have a new teen driver, and he loses the keys if he speeds. I’m not going to be a hypocrite and say it’s okay for me to speed. |
I did the same in my prior non-EV car and I do the same when I'm driving my husband's gasoline Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tesla just makes it super easy to set the cruise to the exact limit everywhere you go. I haven't had a traffic ticket or been in an accident in 15 years. |
| This post is priceless!!! |
I used to speed and one day I just realized how pointless it was. You really don't get anywhere any faster unless you're on some super long road trip for a travel sport and it might save a whole 30 minutes if you speed (big whoop). I think people are projecting their anger and stress when they drive like lunatics. Slow down and smell the roses, you know what I mean? Take it easy. |
Guess what? 20 MPH over the speed limit is reckless driving. That is a citation you don't want to get. Anything over 80 in Virginia is also reckless driving. grow up |
Teslas are super sporty. |
+1 to all. If it's safe, I may go 5-10mph but never more. And, yes, stay to the right. People who have issues with that are nuts. People who drive exactly the speed limit are mildly annoying (people are busy and stressed, driving 5mph over won't garner a ticket or cause an accident) but only mildly so. Moderately so if they make you miss a long light you'd otherwise have made. |
