lol. This bands are 20 to almost 40 years old at this point. Rock is dead, and those bands are dinosaur. We need new rock, but the genre is just dead.

country rock- Red Clay Strays. In person they are the best band I have ever seen. Their music is good recorded but live is where they shine.

Yeah I don’t think rock bands are a thing now. Most are obscure and not widely known. Pop and Hip Hop is what’s popular now.

That depends on your definition of rock. If a band with guitar, bass, drums and a singer that is NOT country and NOT hip-hop counts, I nominate Imagine Dragons, One Republic, AJR, and possibly Maroon 5.

I have elementary age boys and I hear A LOT of these bands. They are all solid musicians with palatable, often catchy songs that would be fun to see in concert, but also you can imagine hearing them at the grocery store or car dealership waiting area 10 years from now. Based on the bands you suggested, I would align them to bands from our generation as follows:
Imagine Dragons = Sound Garden or Bush
One Republic = Coldplay
AJR = Weezer or Nada Surf
Maroon 5 = Matchbox 20

Chili peppers might be the best of all time with the most songs almost everybody has heard. They have over 20. Entire concerts with songs everybody knows. And it’s actual “Rock”

Spoon IS a rock band and good one at that.

I would argue Black Keys is a blues-rock band. Also I used to skateboard in the suburban parking lots of northeast Ohio in the mid-90s with the brothers that became the Black Keys.

Agree with Spoon and the Black Keys. Would add the National (when they aren't navel gazing) and White Denim.

I saw Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit this summer and they were fantastic - at times sounded country, at other times like the Allman Brothers, REM, and Neil Young. Just stellar musicianship all around. But it's fine w/me if he and his band continue to fly somewhat under the radar.
