I think that Sterling partnership for West Virginia MLS is not new. It seems like it's a way for WV Soccer to maybe get some kids from northern VA whose parents are willing to make that drive. It is really far if you don't live in western Loudoun. I highly doubt they will ever practice on Sterling fields.

The weird WV-Sterling boys team relationship is not relevant to the girls side though.

Herndon *needs* Sterling because they cannot roster a girls team in each RL age group (unless VPSL gives them some kind of waiver). Sterling can always put their teams back in NCSL and the families would probably prefer it.

Right they’re completely separate. I thought it strange because Sterling is only announcing one partnership in their tryouts, but not the other. It made me think that there could be something changing on the girls side.

How come NA the Technical Director is the only coach being flown around by families to junket tournaments?

His girls team went to Disney and now they are spamming Herndon parents asking for donations so some *9 year olds* can go to Spain for spring break? Sorry I can't afford to take my own kid to Spain for spring break. No other teams are doing these extras, some of the other teams have only played one tournament all year and it was Herndons tournament?

Agree that it’s weird. I assume NA is the coach of the team going to Spain? Kids who were interested in playing at Mundialito could have tried out for the team that HP Elite and Futstars put together. That way the people who can afford it go and people who can’t, don’t go. There is no reason to try to bring an entire Herndon team and fundraise for the kids who can’t afford it, other than an attempt to gain publicity for the club and for the coach to get a free trip to Spain. Sorry not donating for such self serving reasons.

well they spammed a thousand Herndon parents yesterday and no one donated even a penny so i guess everyone else found it wildly inappropriate as well.

What’s the problem here? If you don’t want to help or can’t help, then don’t do it. You are just a resentful person because some other team manager had a wonderful idea of taking kids to compete to Spain and evidently you are not in that team. Stop trashing other parents who take the extra step to give their kids more opportunities. If you don’t like it, then go somewhere else.

I can't tell if this is a troll or an actual person believing this.

People can do what they want with their own cash for their own kids. But its really cringey to beg for money from the rest of the club parents for a completely frivolous and ridiculous trip for a group of completely average 9 year olds. "Boo Hoo! Everyone on our team can't afford to chip in for our coach's travel expenses to SPAIN. Please give us some of your hard earned money so we can live it up on spring break."

Clearly everyone agrees because no donations were made after the Beggar email was sent out to all. (Alot of families feel Herndon has jacked up the cost of playing while providing a lot less.)

HAHA. Its probably the "team manager who had the wonderful idea".

This is exactly how NA operates - he is completely self-serving and chooses a small number of players to focus on and then funnels all club resources toward those specific players at the expense of everyone else. He's been doing it for years.

If our team manager did this I would be pissed. Don’t get kids excited about an expensive trip their parents may not be able to afford. There’s a reason these kind of things are usually done by club neutral training orgs. There should be no pressure or feelings of missing out for kids whose parents can’t or don’t want to spend the money. Spring break/Easter is a very expensive time to fly to Spain. Mundialito is a cool experience but it’s soccer tourism, not some once in a lifetime opportunity to be scouted.

Is Herndon club giving them money towards this? I was surprised to see they were "only" trying to raise $6000 (that doesn't go far towards taking a team of kids and paying all of NA's expenses to Spain!) and also that the trip is in March, which is soon. Wouldn't plane ticket costs and trip fees have already been due long ago? At that age, no one would send a child without a parent along too. The whole thing is odd. Certainly I would never donate to such a thing. House burned down, mom has cancer, sign me up for a casserole. Sending a third grader to Spain for spring break? LMAO.

It looks like its one team of kids travelling made up from two age groups--so I guess just the kids who can afford to go to Spain are the ones participating. How sad and inappropriate for a club with a lot of scholarship players.

Well put.

How much would it normally cost to go on something like this? Just curious. 6000 does seem crazy low.

In general these types of tourist trips are around 2k per person Plus the cost of a spring break season flight to Spain. So around $2800 at least per person is my guess AS WELL as their share of the coach's travel costs. So thats quite a lot for one parent and one kid per family
