DP. I do think that, because that's what seems to have happened. "In a fifth-story apartment furnished with not much more than a mattress on the floor and two folding tables, the 23-year-old had amassed four legally purchased high-powered rifles mounted with scopes, two handguns and more than a thousand rounds of ammunition." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/05/12/edmund-burke-spencer-school-shooting/) The guy had no prior criminal history (https://wjla.com/features/i-team/dc-shooting-northwest-dc-vann-ness-shooter-who-is-raymoond-spencer-gunman-wheaton-high-school-dc-apartment-chief-contee-four-injured-connectivut-avenue-police-fairfax-county-raymond-spencer-background) and I've seen no evidence he had any of the mental health issues that keep you from legally purchasing a gun. Why wouldn't I think he purchased it legally? People legally purchase guns and then massacre (or try to massacre) people with them in this country. |
Inconvenient truth: the sniper who targeted the DC school last month was able to purchase components to assemble FOUR assault rifles, as well as TWO additional partially assembled assault rifles, in Virginia because he passed the bare minimum NCIS check. He also purchased TWO semiautomatic handguns and thousands of ammo rounds, a sniper tripod, and a scope which live-streamed video. The shooter had no job and yet rented teo apartments and spent untold thousands on amassing his arsenal. At least two bullets struck local businesses after travelling more than 3/4 of a mile. So, yeah, maybe sit this one out. |
This. Unless the Supreme Court decides to overturn precedent and restrict rights that it previously acknowledged, legislation here will not withstand challenge. Oh wait. |
Ugh. I'm so tired of the "people will get them illegally anyway!" crap. These are always the same people who think outlawing abortions will make all abortions go away. |
This. So what if there are illegal ways to get them. We have to do something. And longer we wait, the more behind the curve we are. |
It’s almost incomprehensible that anyone not acting in bad faith would think that an AR15 wasn’t purchased legally when used for the purpose of committing mass murder. Particularly in circumstances where there are multiple weapons. |
+1. The weapons used in these massacres are often purchased legally. Buffalo, Uvalde, Parkland, Tree of Life, El Paso, Las Vegas, all purchased legally. |

Can’t decide which is more apropos: “To know Ted Cruz is to dislike Ted Cruz” Or “Why do people instantaneously dislike Ted Cruz? Because it saves time.” |
|
What?
"A man who walked onto the campus of an Arlington elementary school Thursday morning was injured when a gun he was wearing was accidentally discharged, police say. Arlington police said they do not believe the man had any malicious intent and that he was there to pick up a child." https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/man-carries-gun-onto-arlington-elementary-campus-accidentally-shoots-self-in-the-foot/2978774/ |
Then there’s the take of the inimitable Al Franken — Here’s the thing you have to understand about Ted Cruz. I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz. |
Bring Al Franken back. Dems totally overreacted but ousting him. He is a good guy. |

He's such a GD idiot. Asking why this is being turned into political propaganda. BECAUSE YOU MAKE THE LAWS YOU DUMBASS. It's a political issue. It's a gun issue. |
